102-year-old dancer sees herself on film for the very first time

Indy100 StaffApr 22, 2015 Well, this is just beautiful. This is Alice Barker, aged 102. In the 1930s and 1940s she was a chorus-line dancer during the Harlem Renaissance, dancing alongside luminaries such as Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly. But despite starring in films, commercials and TV shows, Alice had never seen herself dance on film, so Mark Cantor of Jazz Film and David Shuff helped to remedy that. While in her hospital bed Alice is shown footage of herself dancing in her 20s, and is soon dancing along, sharing anecdotes about her nickname Chicken Little (she always asked to eat chicken) and how her name was constantly misspelled as Alice Baker. After the video ends she asks to watch it again, and remarks the films are "making me wish I could get out of this bed and do it all over again". Writing on YouTube, where people can even send fan mail to Alice, one commenter said: "Beautiful and bittersweet! Life is precious! Dance dance dance."
