What the mother who dragged her son away from the Baltimore protests has to say
Dina RickmanApr 29, 2015 The mother who went viral after being filmed furiously dragging her teenage son away from a protest over the death of Freddie Gray has spoken out. The death of Gray, 25, from spinal injuries he apparently sustained in police custody has sparked riots in Baltimore. Mother-of-six Toya Graham said she didn't want her son Michael "to be a Freddie Gray" - which is why she went to confront her 16-year-old when she spotted him among a crowd throwing objects at police on TV news. "At that point, I just lost it," she told CBS News. "I was shocked, I was angry, because you never want to see your child out there doing that." She added: "He gave me eye contact. And at that point, you know, not even thinking about cameras or anything like that. That's my only son and at the end of the day I don't want him to be a Freddie Gray." As for when Michael spotted her? "He knew he was in trouble, He said when 'I seen you,' he said, 'ma, my instinct was to run.'"
