How British football fans really feel about a winter World Cup

Evan BartlettFeb 25, 2015 A Fifa taskforce announced yesterday that the 2022 World Cup should be held in November and December instead of the traditional June/July slot to avoid the soaring summer temperatures in Qatar. While the suggestion has not been officially confirmed by Fifa (that could happen at the executive committee meeting next month) FA chairman Greg Dyke has vowed to fight against it in order to preserve the traditional busy Christmas schedule in England. As this chart from Statista, using data from YouGov, shows, British football fans are generally quite split on whether a winter World Cup is such a bad idea - with 55 per cent saying it should still be held in summer and 36 per cent agreeing with Fifa's latest idea. However, where the British public clearly differ from the world governing body is on the choice of destination - with 79 per cent saying Fifa was wrong to choose the gulf state to host the tournament.
