Here' s just how diverse the Oscar nominations are

Jessica McKayJan 15, 2015 Selma, pictured above, was among the films seemingly snubbed by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as the nominations for the 87th Oscars were announced. Although the Martin Luther King Jr biopic did get a nod for best picture, it was surprisingly overlooked in the acting categories for stars David Oyelowo and Carmen Ejogo. The Academy has been criticised for ignoring non-white talent, with only white actors up for awards. Let's take a look at all the awards combined where individuals are named: Oh. Maybe they're more representative when it comes to gender? Oh. As an aside, it's reported that 94 per cent of people who have a say in the Oscar nominations are white, 77 per cent are male, and they have a median age of 62. Dick Pope, who become the unwitting breakout story of the day when his name was mispronounced as "Dick Poop" (we know, what a world) is up for the cinematography Oscar, a category in which a woman has never been nominated.
