Evan BartlettJan 07, 2015 Despite days of back and forths, strong criticism and a huge petition, it finally appears as if Oldham Athletic have decided to sign rapist Ched Evans. Verlin Rainwater Solutions, one of the club's sponsors, has withdrawn its support and said it will no longer be associated with the League One club due to the "imminent signing" of the convicted rapist. After receiving the news regarding the imminent signing of Ched Evans it is with great regret that Verlin Rainwater Solutions will no longer be associated with Oldham Athletic. We would like to take this opportunity to make clear that we feel that Mr Evans should be able to lead a life without further punishment after serving his sentence, although our feelings remain the same that this should not be within the public domain where his previous behaviour may influence the next generation. Verlin Rainwater Solutions statement Tens of thousands of people have signed a petition addressed to the club's chairman Simon Corney and the leader of the town's council has also urged the club not to sign Evans. Ian Herbert, the Independent's chief sports writer has worked through details of how the club plans to offset any financial losses they may occur as a result of a supporter boycott if Evans signs.
