But instead of giving up, we should feel inspired that things are slowly getting better for everyone. All it takes is a decent scroll through the internet to discover just much homophobia and ill intent is still lurking there. However, the net isn't just full of doom and gloom! Some folks have taken it upon themselves to call homophobes out with humor, roasts, and comebacks so hot, you might need to call the fire department. Bored Panda has collected some of the best comebacks that support the LGBTQ+ community to inspire you to stand up for what's right, so have a read. Upvote the ones that you think are worth a gold star and let us know about the times that you've called out blatant hate and ignorance online, dear Pandas. When you're done reading the article, be sure to check out our earlier post about the best comebacks to homophobic remarks right over here. Bored Panda spoke about the reasons for homophobia with psychotherapist Silva Neves. According to him, homophobia is learned and usually becomes enrooted as a result of their upbringing. "If people grew up with homophobic parents and they haven't been exposed to different opinions, they are more likely to be homophobic themselves," Silva explained to us. "Most religions promote the inaccurate idea that same-sex relationships and sexual behaviors are unnatural, wrong, against their God, and a sin." He noted that this isn't confined to a single religion but is more widespread. "Even recently, the Pope declared that same-sex marriages were not endorsed by the Church. Islam is also very homophobic. Most Islamic countries have anti-gay laws with punishment ranging from imprisonment to the death penalty. Many people in the UK growing up in such households are more likely to be homophobic. " #4Being Gay Isn t Contagious You Homophobes

"Teenagers can be homophobic as a way to conform to heterosexuality and be more accepted by their peers," Silva told Bored Panda. According to the psychotherapist, another reason why homophobia manifests is when people have same-sex attractions that they're trying to deny and repress. "In being homophobic they attempt to repress their own feelings by fighting against the source of their arousal: the LGBTQ people. It is quite a common story that Priests who promote 'conversion therapy' are caught on Grindr trying to have sex with other men," he gave an example of how this can manifest in reality. #7Stealing The Rainbow

In a previous interview, I spoke about LGBTQ+ issues with 'Stonewall,' a UK-based organization that aims to create a world where all members of the LGBTQ+ community are free to be themselves and live their lives to the fullest. Robbie de Santos, the Director of Communications and External Affairs at 'Stonewall,' told Bored Panda earlier that Pride Month is an annual way for everyone all over the world to show support for the LGBTQ+ community. #10Homophobe Gets Roasted

"At Stonewall, we'll continue to fight until every lesbian, gay, bi, trans, and queer person is free to be themselves, wherever they are," he added. A full-on heterosexual gives about as much thought to homosexuality as they do to what it would be like to be a lamp post: not at all unless it's brought up, and then a quick "Who cares?" response as they go on with their day-to-day life because it's something they can't relate to and has no impact on how they live their lives. But I was teached that forgiveness, compassion and love were more important quality to have for being a good Christian rather than pointing others' sins. Right now I'm not religious, and so maybe what they teached me was kind of wrong, but I find a religion that professes harmony and compassion much more appealing, rational and useful that a religion that teach people to be arrogant, intollerant and full of hatred. I know that you can read the bible knowing the historical contest (knowing that some things came from the costumes and the traditions of the times, and so were not related with the core of the doctrine) and searching to use it as a guide to live a more fullfilling existence or you can search to read it literally using it to promote hate and division and using only the part you want, to justify your lifestyle (if people want to live in a very biblical way, they should get rid of a lot of items and rights, not just "gay rights"). 2 2points reply Eslamala Eslamala Community Member • points posts comments upvotes FollowUnfollow 1 year ago How insecure of a person are you when someone else's sexuality is an issue for you??
