In the village where I live, a lovely man with a chainsaw offered to come around and help clear any trees that were causing issues - he came around ours as we had a large tree fall and completely block our elderly neighbours driveway (thankfully missing his house!). He spent nearly three hours (with my husbands help, clearing away a massive conifer tree so that the access to my neighbour was clear. He spent all day going around the village asking people if they needed help with tree clearance and even did it the weekend after! As far as I know, he didn't receive a penny for this - we offered him several times to pay! Thank you to those people who helped us after the storm! People came from all over to help, they brought food and water. The red cross drove through neighborhoods handing out MRE's. And all of our neighbors helped each other out. And compassion starts with empathy - imagining putting ourselves in the mind of another person and imagining what they're going through. Once we've empathized, and feel their suffering, the second half of compassion is wanting to end that suffering. This is when good-hearted actions may occur. But most importantly, in order to make a compassionate move, a person has to get themselves out of the way and to think of the other person. You definitely go nose blind on the smell and even covered in plastic bags I still smelled like skunk for about a month afterwards. In the village where I live, a lovely man with a chainsaw offered to come around and help clear any trees that were causing issues - he came around ours as we had a large tree fall and completely block our elderly neighbours driveway (thankfully missing his house!). He spent nearly three hours (with my husbands help, clearing away a massive conifer tree so that the access to my neighbour was clear. He spent all day going around the village asking people if they needed help with tree clearance and even did it the weekend after! As far as I know, he didn't receive a penny for this - we offered him several times to pay! We had similar happen after Hurricane Charley hit us. Guys came around with chainsaws and cleared the roads and helped us get the big trees off our homes and yards. It was amazing! Thank you to those people who helped us after the storm! People came from all over to help, they brought food and water. The red cross drove through neighborhoods handing out MRE's. And all of our neighbors helped each other out. My husband would fire up the generator each morning to make a big pot of coffee and go door to door to bring hot coffee to the neighbors. 3 3points reply Load More Replies...
