Woman Calls Out Clothing Brands For Sexist Care Tags And Here Are 10 Of The Most Upsetting Ones Interview With Author

BoredPanda staff Despite our society actively educating people on practising a safe environment for every human being – many social issues require an unbelievable amount of hard work in order to at least be heard by some. People who grew up in an "old-fashioned" upbringing tend to need an absurd amount of everyday learning that would ultimately lead them into understanding how discriminating against other folks is foolish, at the very least. Some individuals carry on believing their unhealthy opinions even with all the right-minded morals our community strives to preach – however, it's all a matter of time. Things like sexism and racism remain to be particularly significant in this day and age, as a countless amount of people still get harassed on the basis of their race and gender. Sometimes it feels like certain groups of people are simply hating as if it's an ordinary everyday type of need. Many fail to recognize how casual the discrimination can be – for instance, let's look at this viral TikTok that made many people rush to check the care tags on their clothes. More info: TikTok Instagram YouTube

This TikToker got over 920K views on a video after exposing clothing brands for their discriminative care tags

Image credits: one.in.a.millie.on Millie Lusson, a Canadian hobby enthusiast and history lover, made a TikTok video demonstrating how a bunch of clothing brands appear to be using discriminatory language in their instruction labels. The video sparked a fiery debate amongst online users and received nearly 3200 comments where people couldn't comprehend that things like this still happen in this day and age. Image credits: one.in.a.millie.on Image credits: one.in.a.millie.on Bored Panda has reached out to Millie in order to find out about her personal beliefs regarding this serious matter. The woman is extremely passionate about this topic and revealed that we as a society should be past this type of "humor" by now. She feels that putting jokes on labels is a great idea, but strongly encourages companies to be self aware and make them funny without using misogyny, sexism, etc. Image credits: one.in.a.millie.on Image credits: one.in.a.millie.on We asked Lusson about what she thinks would be the best "remedy" for organizations or people in general that still discriminate against folks based on their gender, to which she replied: "I think it starts with education. It takes a lot of work, but learning about diversity, sexuality, and gender identity, and the history and evolution of systems of oppression, is important and necessary work for everyone to take on. And along with that, talking about it with friends, family, and colleagues is a big part of it. It will probably be uncomfortable, but people need to learn to sit in discomfort and grow from it rather than avoid it." Image credits: one.in.a.millie.on Image credits: one.in.a.millie.on Millie also added: "casual misogyny and sexism are very problematic, they seep into the vernacular, and with that there is a danger that they become the norm. Being under the guise of 'jokes' does not excuse them and we should not let them slide because of that. Calling it out is a simple good thing that anyone can do". Image credits: one.in.a.millie.on Image credits: one.in.a.millie.on To a certain extent, social media can be a true blessing. People are able to voice their concerns and actually be heard by the majority. Sadly, sometimes, just educating people doesn't perform as well as we would like to – hence why calling out involved individuals and literally pointing at their mistakes works wonders. Image credits: one.in.a.millie.on Image credits: one.in.a.millie.on Sexism will most likely continue to happen as double standards are extremely embedded in our culture. After all, inequality starts in our childhood when parents casually say things like "but you're a girl," implying that a woman is not allowed to do whatever she wants to do simply because of her gender. It's our job to continue enlightening uneducated people even if it seems that fighting for an ethical environment will never stop.

Then as soon as you call it out you're immediately told it's a joke or to lighten up and chill. People are twisting blatant hatefulness, sexism, and any other bad thing into a joke. But there is no joke that is just how they feel and think. What do you call that? When people use a joke to mask how awful they really are. I see it so much on social media and it's messed up how some people do that. Does anyone else know what I'm talking about? I can't be the only one who notices this. 57 57points reply Good girl wanna be. Good girl wanna be. Ive had someone ( or people over the years) criticize something about me and when I call them on it, tell me they were just kidding. The truth is when I called them on whatever it was, they didn't have the backbone to stand up for what they said. My word for it is hypocrite. 26 26points reply Load More Replies... So i corddially invite you to invest in my new start up 'Rent a mom' where a real life mom will come to your home and do your laundry for you. Now the cost of living is so high no one can afford it. More tax dollars to the government? They really missed out before that's 50% of the population. I'd pay someone happily to manage my appointments, but let's not call it "rent a mom". It sexist and not a mothers duty, it's the parents duty to raise children. Let's hire "private life managers" for us busy working tired ass adults.. 5 5points reply Space whale Space whale Community Member • points posts comments upvotes FollowUnfollow 9 months ago Very sexist 28 28points reply Roshan Deapal Roshan Deapal Community Member • points posts comments upvotes FollowUnfollow 9 months ago This comment is hidden.
