Publish Not your original work? Add source It's no secret that the fashion industry still largely struggles with inclusivity toward bodies. Today, it's up to the models, influencers and photographers to spark change and rewrite the rules. Many of them are tirelessly doing exactly that. Two best friends and social media creators named Denise Mercedes and Maria Castellanos went viral for their "Style Not Size" project which promotes body positivity a couple of years ago. Today, they continue to spread their message, saying that nobody should be confined to what society tells us is the correct thing to wear for specific sizes. So they're taking this approach to daily life and the streets of New York, where the duo is putting the same outfit on their different body types. The result is both empowering and normalizing, urging society to get rid of the outdated notion of the "wrong" clothes for the "wrong" bodies. Scroll down for the most recent Style Not Size looks, upvote your favorite ones and be sure to check out more of the duo's fashion inspiration in our previous posts here, here, and here. "It blew up on social media and people reacted so positively to it that we continued doing it here and there," Denise told Bored Panda in an earlier interview. The very first video that the now famous duo shared on TikTok amassed more than 1.5 million views and three years later, they're nowhere near stopping. "Once TikTok had become popular, we decided to do a fun video and that's when it went viral," Denise said. #4 denisemmercedes Report Final score: 84points POST 3 Owls In A Coat 3 Owls In A Coat Community Member • points posts comments upvotes FollowUnfollow 1 month ago OOF LADIES 27 27points reply View More Replies... "I think we really wanted to push the boundaries and go for it! We dressed from head to toe to really showcase one same look on different bodies," Maria told Bored Panda. The friends loved the public's response, and not much later, they were already treating their hobby as a job. For them, it's a job to educate and open people's eyes to the endless possibilities in fashion. These days, Maria and Denise not only post more content more often, they also cater to every style so that there's content to be enjoyed by everyone. No wonder that the Style Not Size project has managed to remain as relevant as it was in the beginning despite the fact that much of the viral content loses its relevance with time. #7 denisemmercedes Report Final score: 76points POST 3 Owls In A Coat 3 Owls In A Coat Community Member • points posts comments upvotes FollowUnfollow 1 month ago (edited) Curvy lady absolutely steals the show with this dress although this dress is making the slender lady look quite curvy too! The pair believes that it's time to stop comparing yourself to others, and they hope that their Style Not Size project will inspire people to feel good in their own skin. No matter our bodies, sizes, and whatever people think. Denise also stated that "the fact that we can inspire so many women to feel confident and be themselves makes us want to continue this movement." The pair is over the moon to get so much positivity from people on social media. For curvy ladies, Denise's go-to combo in the autumn season is "some high-rise mom jeans, boots, a shirt and a leather jacket." EDIT: stop downvoting me for having an opinion on clothes. do you really think having my own taste in fashion is a decent reason for my account to get banned? for context, the top comment in the main comment section of this article says "Who designed these outfits? A lot of them look really weird and ugly, regardless of the body type of the wearer." which is almost exactly what i said: that these outfits aren't very good & don't look flattering on anyone. so why do i get my account suspended while that person gets 24 upvotes? -14 -14points reply View More Replies... Hey! Community Member • points posts comments upvotes FollowUnfollow 1 month ago (edited) I was thinking a bit of the same here. If I had the curvy girl's belly I would be satisfied, but I have one baby belly and another one on top. These outfit would not make me look great at all, except maybe one or two. I think people will take your comment on "models" as is. I take it as just modelling clothes, not actual models. 6 6points reply Did you hear that? Did you hear that? Community Member • points posts comments upvotes FollowUnfollow 1 month ago I've never actually seen a "curvy" woman with a flat belly. These ladies are beautiful but they represent a tiny demographic. I'm not hating on them for being fashionable and taking pics with different body styles, good for them, good for people who don't judge you by your appearance. But let's face it, most people are disgusted by a fat lumpy woman in anything that shows lumps.(I am one of those fat women with the c- section apron that won't go away) 3 3points reply Mara Corvin Mara Corvin Community Member • points posts comments upvotes FollowUnfollow 1 month ago Everyone has their own opinion. But the way you word yours makes you sound petty, cruel and insecure. The clothes they chose to showcase may not be what you would choose to wear, but most can't afford designer clothing, and everyone tries to make due with what they have. You tarnish and taint their hard work with your negative and frankly, uncalled for comments. You obviously have a lot of things to work through, and I respect that. But don't go dragging down others to make you feel better about yourself. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. "dragging others down to make me feel better about myself"? i "obviously have a lot of things to work through"? you're assuming a whole lot about me just because i expressed an opinion that you don't agree with. the comment section is for sharing opinions both positive & negative, & i offered constructive criticism about what i see as flaws in this particular photoshoot. don't agree? just scroll by. but for someone touting the phrase "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" you sure were happy to accuse me of being a "petty, cruel, & insecure" person who needs to "work through some things" before being allowed to share my opinion. as for the designer clothes thing, i wasn't suggesting they waste their money on overpriced trash. there are a lot of fashionable & highly affordable clothes in a variety of styles at walmart, target, thrift shops instead of whatever online shop they used (prob shein, ive seen these clothes on shein ads). 0 0points reply Nyako Lyonei Nyako Lyonei Community Member • points posts comments upvotes FollowUnfollow 1 month ago Exactly her entire comment just sounded hateful and it was totally unnecessary -1 -1point reply Felix Grace Felix Grace Community Member • points posts comments upvotes FollowUnfollow 1 month ago Body positivity is great. but maybe it should stretch beyond a conventionally attractive plus size person and a somewhat curvy skinny person. I also think these two do a much better job of representing clothes actually looking different on different people than a lot of "body positivity" posts and I want to applaud that. Equity through body positivity doesn't mean we should assume absolute equality of every fashion looking good on every type of person (and this also does a good hob of showing that the person closer to the sizing most companies display is only actually the more attractive fit half or less of the time). Finally, I love that they aren't in silly situations, photoshopped, or in full stage makeup. I would love more "real people" wearing clothes, but these two actually show why we need to pay attention to different shapes and sizes in more than a token way. 0 0points reply Load More Comments POST Elliot Fowler Elliot Fowler Community Member • points posts comments upvotes FollowUnfollow 1 month ago (edited) Who designed these outfits?
