New Army of Darkness Comic Celebrates Film’ s 30th Anniversary
Posted By: Joshua Henryon: February 28, 2022In: ComicsTags: Army of Darkness, Dynamite Entertainment Print Email Dynamite Comics has announced a special Army of Darkness comic for the film’s 30th anniversary. Per Bleeding Cool, this event comic will include a multi-title publishing plan for the series. Although, that likely won’t come to fruition until sometime this summer. While a comic based on the horror film seems odd, the franchise has a surprising relationship with comics. Army of Darkness… The Horror Movie
Army of Darkness was a horror-comedy (horomedy?) released back in the early nineties. The film was the third in the Evil Dead series and a direct sequel to Evil Dead 2. Sam Raimi’s film saw Bruce Campbell return as chainsaw-armed Ash Williams. In this installment, Ash was trapped in the Middle Ages, and to get home; he had to fight hordes of the undead. While this third installment was not as well-received as its predecessors, it became a cult favorite. A sequel to the film, to be penned Army of Darkness 2, was planned. However, a film never happened. Instead, the sequel’s story was adapted for television in the Starz series Ash vs. Evil Dead. However, this 30th anniversary Army of Darkness comic is sure to be something never-before-seen from Ash. That’ s Great But We Are Talking Comics Here
Before the film’s release in 1992, Dark Horse Comics published a comic book adaptation of the film. The publisher would also produce several comic sequels for the film. In 2004, Dynamite Entertainment purchased the license and continued to publish Army of Darkness comic books. They will be handling this special event comic for the film’s 30th anniversary. Throughout the years, Ash Williams has popped up in several comic books and series. He even showed up in the Marvel Universe through the publisher’s zombie series. His most recent outing has been in the Army of Darkness: 1979 series. This miniseries from Rodney Barnes follows Ash as he traverses New York in the seventies. Naturally, he eventually encounters some supernatural baddies and must, once again, fight off the dead. Ash has also been popping up in Dynamite’s other zombie series, Die!namite. It would seem that a comic book celebration of the film is the perfect way to tackle the 30th anniversary. For now, there is no information on what this event comic will look like. But, knowing Ash Williams, it is sure to be bloody. Tags: Army of DarknessDynamite Entertainment Previous Cyberpunk 2077 February 28 Update Patch Notes
