5 Ideas for The Owl House Spinoffs
Posted By: James Bellon: July 15, 2022In: Features, Opinion, Streaming, TVTags: Disney, the owl houseNo Comments Print Email Even in its relatively short time, The Owl House has proven to be one of the most popular Disney TVA series to date, and with season 3 on the horizon, that is unlikely to change. Although the series was unfortunately canceled by Disney and season 3 was shortened, as a result, it is clear that creator Dana Terrace had much more in store for the show’s story. The conclusion of The Owl House may very open the door for more stories in the future. Still, until then, we can speculate, and there is a possibility in particular that would the most layers to the narrative: spinoffs! Spinoffs are a fun way to explore different aspects or characters in a world, and some may even surprise their source story in quality. For The Owl House, a fun, interesting spinoff that provides a deeper glimpse into the life of a prominent character, such as Eda, would give fans both a great deal of fanservice and a look into her history. But that is just one idea out of many, and for this list, we’ll count down 5 of the most interesting ideas for Owl House spinoffs that, while unlikely, would be fantastic to see. 1 The Life of Vee and Camila
The introduction of Vee brought about an answer to the once infamous “creepy Luz” rumor that was rampant throughout the airing of season 1 of The Owl House. Back then, everyone was convinced she was some shadowy clone or evil doppelgänger created by Emperor Belos or some other crazy theory. Now, of course, we know that she is a basilisk who slipped into the human realm when the story began and had simply been impersonating Luz to live her better life. But she isn’t evil in the slightest, and the story does an excellent job of giving her a believable origin and subsequently establishes a pleasant relationship between her and Camila. Unfortunately, we have yet to see either her or Camila since Luz returned to the Boiling Isles and only recently in King’s Tide, but that begs the question: what were they doing before then? How was Camila coping with the realization that her daughter is in another world and the Luz in her home is not the real one? How has Vee changed Luz’s status at school with her new friends? Is Jacob Hopkins still on her trail, and if so, how is she dealing with him? All these questions could easily be answered in a short spinoff series focused on Vee and her adventures in the human realm, perhaps even featuring her and her new human friends we saw her with solving mysteries around the town Gravity Falls-style or Scooby-Doo style? Certainly sounds like the perfect little story! 2 The Original Hexide Squad
This one is probably the most straightforward: a story about Eda, Lilith, Raine, and every adult we see in their story during their days as youths at Hexide! We see glimpses of the adults’ days at the academy throughout the story, but we never get a full idea of everything they did or all the crazy adventures they may have gone on. We, of course, don’t need to see everything and have a decent idea from what we have seen, but a spinoff series exploring what characters like Eda, Lilith, Raine, Darius, Alador, Odalia, Principal Bump, and all the others in their youth would be simple fun. It would also offer a glimpse at the Boiling Isles before Luz and perhaps even before the Emporer since he’s only actually been in power for a relatively short time since before the story began. We could see the seeds of his reign grow to the point they are at in the actual show, as well as what leads each character to their respective paths. Not every question about them needs to be answered, but learning more about Eda and Raine especially would give an interesting glimpse at their relationship, as well as how she and Lilith diverged through their lives. 3 The Good Witch Azura
The Good Witch Azura book series has always played a major role in the overall story of The Owl House, being the driving force behind Luz’s fascination with witches and much of her own creativity. It is also a point of connection between Luz and Amity that helps build their relationship. However, while we are given a decent glimpse into the narrative of the Good Witch Azura books, a lot is still left up in the air about it. One thing, in particular, is the author of the books and how they transcended between realms, but considering the story recently tried to address that very topic in an episode, it is likely we will have an answer before the series ends. More interestingly, a perfect concept for an Owl House spinoff would be an actual mini-series that is a direct adaptation of the Good Witch Azura books, basically retelling them as its own separate story. Considering how little about the series is directly explained to the audience, this leaves a lot of room for creative interpretation to tell an entirely new story that may or may not be connected to The Owl House itself. That last point may likely depend on who the actual author is revealed to be, but regardless, it would be a blast to actually see the story of the books Luz is so obsessed with, so we can learn why she loves them so much! 4 What If…
Taking a page straight from Marvel’s What If…? mini-series, a similar approach for The Owl House might actually be quite refreshing to see. The concept of a what-if scenario has always been fascinating for storytelling because it gives an idea of how the story could have turned out if things were just a little different than we know them. That alone can provide for literally endless possibilities. In the case of a show like The Owl House, a spinoff of this nature already has a very strong base to work from. A series like this could easily explore some of the darker aspects of the story to provide a deeper glimpse into characters like Luz, Eda, Amity, Hooty, King, and many more. Just a few examples could already bring up so many possibilities. What if Luz’s first portal actually worked the first time? What if Eda was actually turned to stone in season 1? What if King already knew he was Titan? These are just a few examples, but they already show off the potential this idea has, and it would be fun to see what other alternate routes the story could have taken. 5 The Previous Golden Guard
Hollow Mind is perhaps one of the darkest, most intense episodes of The Owl House. The revelations marked a major turn in the story for several characters, particularly Luz and Hunter. The truth about Emperor Belos and the history of the Golden Guard title was both fascinating and incredibly disturbing. However, there is still a bit of mystery surrounding those who previously held it. We know that the one before Hunter was close with Abomination Coven Head Darius in some way, but that would simply be a part of the many things we could learn about him and his history with the Emperor. We may already know how his story ended, but that could still open several possibilities to throw the audience for a loop about his true fate and to see what life was like in the Boiling Isles during his time. An Owl House spinoff of this nature would likely be much darker in tone than most of the series, but it would still make for a unique solo story just for the sake of seeing a character we know so little about.
