Dean Fleischer Camp to Direct Live-Action ‘ Lilo and Stitch’

Deadline reports Fleischman is presently enjoying the critical success of his film Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, which was released nationwide on July 15. The live-action Lilo & Stitch will be his next big project. This project was announced in 2018 amidst many other announcements of planned remakes of Disney’s animated films. The original 2oo2 animated film told the story of a lonely Hawaiian girl named Lilo who adopts an alien disguised as a dog named Stitch, built to be a weapon of mass destruction. Dean Fleischer Camp has directed many short films, TV productions, and documentaries. However, his new mockumentary Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, has people turning their heads toward this director. The film is being heavily praised by critics, scoring a 99% on Rotten Tomatoes. The mockumentary is a blend of live-action and CGI, which is probably what audiences can expect from the new Lilo & Stitch remake. A Remake of a Sleeper Hit

While it wasn’t a huge box-office success, it was well-received by critics and audiences, and it led to two straight-to-video sequels and three animated series. It is one of the many upcoming live-action remakes of Disney animated films, along with a live-action remake of Pinocchio, which is set to be released on Disney+ on September 8, 2022. The 2002 film was famously set in Hawaii, and the new film will have some Hawaiian talent behind the scenes. Hawaii News Now reports that Chris Kekaniokalani Bright is in talks to write the script. The live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch, directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, is expected to be released in 2024.
