Tom Hanks On Making Only Four ‘ Pretty Good’ Movies

With one of the most legendary filmographies, Tom Hanks looked back at the making of his movies in an interview with People. With classic films under his belt like Forest Gump, Saving Private Ryan, Cast Away, The Green Mile, and more, he only thinks there are four “pretty good” ones. In part of thinking this, Tom Hanks finds making movies so challenging that he feels “amazed” at how the process can end up with a solid product after pre-production, production, and post-production. To him, the whole idea is a “miracle.” “No one knows how a movie is made — though everyone thinks they do. I’ve made a ton of movies (and four of them are pretty good, I think) and I’m still amazed at how films come together.” Tom Hanks thinks making movies is a “ miracle”
What inspired Tom Hanks to look back at his filmography and the process of making movies is, in part, the promotion of his debut novel, The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece, which is set to be published on May 9, 2023. The book explores the industry over the decades with characters experiencing things that the legendary actor has seen or heard while working. The book follows a fictional story about a boy who grows up to be in the film industry. It chronicles the process of making movies by the inception of a comic book that gets adapted. A boy grows up and in the 70s, draws a comic book inspired by his war hero uncle who fought in World War II. As it gets adapted, the film will feature an “extremely difficult” male lead, a “wonderful” actress, and an “eccentric’ director. While he may find only four of his movies to be solid, the movies that Tom Hanks has starred in have become beloved around the world. Over the decades, he has won Oscars and plenty of success that continues to soar. This year, he starred in Elvis and Disney’s Pinocchio, and later he will star in A Man Called Otto and Asteroid City.
