King Charles And Queen Camilla Step Out for First Joint Duty

Charles sported a kilt and Queen Camilla wore a coordinating green coat with black boots and gloves to match. The royal couple took part in their first joint public duties when they headed to a historic spot in Scotland on Monday. King Charles and Queen Camilla were first welcomed by schoolchildren and a local pipe band as they arrived at Dunfermline. The royals arrived in Dunfermline to celebrate its new position as Scotland’s latest city. The town was given city status as part of the commemorations for the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Dunfermline is also the burial place of Robert the Bruce and other former Scottish kings and queens. The King and Queen’s first joint duty started in the chamber room at the City Chambers. He made a short speech to Dunfaurlins. The King and Queen Consort are due in Dunfermline shortly for their first official engagement since the end of Royal Mourning. The King started his speech by pointing out that making the town a city was a great way to mark his mother’s lifetime. In his words: “Fitting way to mark my beloved mother’s extraordinary life of service than by granting this honor to a place made famous by its own long and distinguished history, and by the indispensable role it has played in the life of our country.” The King pointed out that his mother’s love for Scotland was one of the foundations of her life. With Dunfermline being a part of Scotland, the transition from a town to a city will make his late mother proud. As part of King Charles and Queen Camilla’s first joint duty, he admonished the people of Dunfermline to feel a sense of pride in this latest chapter. Changing the town to a city is a new distinction that will banish the past legacy. Not just that, it’ll also brighten the prospect of our future. King Charles congratulated the people on their well-deserved status before taking a walk with Queen Camilla to the city’s Abbey.
