Taissa Farmiga Returns for ‘ The Nun 2’

Farmiga, who will reprise the role from 2018’s The Nun, will be joining Storm Reid, who was previously announced as the lead in the upcoming film. The Conjuring expanded universe first began in 2013 with – unsurprisingly – The Conjuring, directed by James Wan. The film introduces audiences to Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga), a married couple of demonologists who are employed by Carolyn Perron (Lili Taylor) to drive a malevolent spirit out of the Perron family house. After the success of The Conjuring, which earned $319.5 million in global box offices after its release, The Conjuring extended universe would go on to create seven more films to date, including Annabelle (2014), The Conjuring 2 (2016), and The Curse of La Llorna (2019). The main films of the franchise take audiences through the gory, spooky details of some of the Warrens’ old cases, even though Ed and Lorraine don’t actually show up in all eight of the films. The Nun 2 will mark the eighth installment in The Conjuring franchise and is one of two films – the other being The Crooked Man – to follow the latest installment in the series, 2021’s The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. The film will act as a sequel to The Nun (2018), where a nun, Sister Irene, and a priest, Father Burke (Demián Bichir), travel to Romania after a monastery is attacked by an unknown evil force, resulting in the death of two of the monastery’s nuns. Together, Irene and Burke work to save the monastery from Valak (Bonnie Aarons), a demon nun from the Middle Ages who originally appeared in The Conjuring 2. Image credit: @thenunmovie via Instagram Along with The Nun star Bonnie Aarons, Taissa Farmiga – sister of Vera Farmiga – will return to reprise her role as Sister Irene in The Nun 2, which franchise producer Peter Safran first announced in 2019, stating that he thought there was “an inevitability to another Nun movie” and that he had a “really fun” storyline in the works for the film. Storm Reid (Euphoria) was cast as the lead for The Nun 2 a week ago, though the details of her character are being kept under wraps for now, along with many of the plot details for the film. The Nun 2 will be produced by James Wan and Peter Safran, who were behind all of The Conjuring films thus far. Deadline reports that Judson Scott will oversee the film for Atomic Monster, with Michael Clear and Gary Dauberman acting as executive producers. The Nun 2, starring Taissa Farmiga, is currently scheduled for release on September 8th, 2023.
