1. Disable all mods
2. Remap Pip-Boy to another key besides tab
3. Delete your files in the Steam/steamapps/common/Fallout 4/Data/Strings folder*
4. Delete any files put there by mods (the obvious ones named after mods) in your Data subfolders like your Materials, Meshes, Strings, Textures*
5 Delete any mod files in the Data folder that are .esm or .esp* * remember to verify your game cache afterward via Steam What worked was I went into the Data/Interface folder and saw two files “Pipboy_InvPage” and PipboyMenu” and I deleted both of those. I then validated the game files and got a 100% (hmm, those must not be part of the install…) so I retried the game.
And it worked. Hope that helps someone else I even reinstalled the darn game too but that didn’t do it.

Im on Dumas 4th memory and I completed about half of it. I saved my progress for the day an decided to tackle the rest later. Up to this point, I had no issues or trouble with fallout 4. When I relaunched my save it just sat there on a black screen with a vault symbol in the bottom right. I left it for a few minutes but nothing happened and the only exit for me was the PlayStation home button. I reloaded it again but I noticed the workbench chime this time. Alas the black screen remained. I decided to back up a few saves to a previous memory and again the same problem. I am open to fix suggestions if anyone has one to try? Reply brian says 6 years ago I am happy to announce that I have solved my problem with the final Dima memory. I was walking around in the game itself around the terminal and noticed Nick was NOT with me. I left the room and he teleported right in front of me. I returned to the terminal and attempted to load the final memory. This time it worked, but instead of the black screen it was the memory layout in front of me, only frozen. I held the (large black button on the PS controller) to exit the workbench and it slowly, with a lot of lag, came back into focus. I am now successfully moving around the memory with no problem. Fix Crash/CTD on Pip-Boy I was having this issue, the following advice I found didn’t help me (but might help you):1.
