After a nine-month-long hiatus, Asmongold made his triumphant return to FFXIV for the first time since September 2021. The 30-year-old streamer broadcasted the beginning of the Stormblood expansion, bringing back the Final Fantasy XIV audience that had left his stream so long ago. Although he’s said before he loves the game, and even believes it replaced World of Warcraft as king of modern MMOs, he’s now threatening to quit the game altogether. square enix/Asmongold/BlizzardAsmongold ditched WoW for FFXIV back in July 2021.

On July 1, Asmongold explained why his return to FFXIV wasn’t exactly the elegant comeback he envisioned. I don’t want to do that, where every post on my Reddit is about Final Fantasy, and everything else is downvoted, and whenever I’m not playing it people are mad.” The OTK streamer called his FFXIV audience “very constraining,” and “super obnoxious.” He also blamed “trolls” for filling up his Reddit with only Final Fantasy content. He finished with, “I would like to play the game and not have people find problems with it. Because I’ll be honest, if that keeps happening, I’ll just not play. I don’t want to deal with that.
