How a company like “WhatsApp” can allow this garbage on its service to the public is unimaginable. Let’s check how the populations compare: California has 40 million people; Texas has 30 million people; Florida has 22 million people; and New York has 20 million people. They are playing according to tackle football rules. I just don’t think these numbers support the letter writer’s assertion that Texas and Florida have kept “seniors safe” from COVID. There used to be strict truth in broadcasting rules for TV and radio, but those rules have been laid to waste.m each day. Seniors are most at risk. Businesses come to Texas because of the favorable tax situation. It’s a sad time for our democracy. After reading this article on the governor of Texas, I’m sure he, like the majority of his GOP party, is thrilled with the election in Italy. Individuals come for the lower cost of living. Of course, presidents are often blamed for inflation and other economic woes over which they have little control. Mike Horridge Guns a health care problem Re: “On health care, O’Rourke eclipses Abbott,” Editorial, Oct. The question raised by the letter writer, why the Editorial Board recommends the way it does, has not a simple answer. The San Diego Padres have had a much longer drought that ended when a goose landed on the field in Los Angeles on Oct. Schedules are subject to change based on weather and other unforeseen factors. Sue Snyder Focus on quality education RE: “Texas schools would improve under O’Rourke,” Editorial, “Elect a governor who will change education for the better,” and “Safety, charter schools, accountability — this is what parents want,” Other Views, Oct. Missing was the most fundamental of questions: What is excellence in education, and how do we get there? There is widespread concern among parents about education quality.S. Unfortunately, that would mean the coyote will take a much-needed break. In the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development’s Programme for International Student Assessment international rankings, the U.S. Isn’t it interesting that Abbott also sloughs off the mass shooting epidemic, claiming that mental health is the problem, not the proliferation of guns.8530 or go to. ranks 38th in math, 19th in science and 13th in reading. But when we woke up on Nov. The National Assessment of Educational Progress rankings show similar concerning and persistent deficits. Paul A. Add to this highly charged social and cultural issues — gender, identity, race, diversity and equity, climate change — all contentious and divisive subjects, which have led to fights between parents and school boards. Hence, the increase in homeschooling, demand for charter schools and voucher programs to help parents to reduce the cost of private schools. There is no way that raising the interest rates or slowing the economy can provide for long-term reduction of prices or control inflation. A. Of course, public schools oppose them because they subtract from their funding. To be fair, there are excellent public schools. Farmers work on borrowed money, manufacturers work on borrowed money, home builders work on borrowed money. I taught at one — Westwood High School in Round Rock ISD. But many schools are at best, mediocre. Slowing the economy reduces our efficiency and causes lost jobs and shortages. Back to my question: What is excellence in education and how do we get there? The 1983 Department of Education’s A Nation at Risk included the famous sentence: “…the educational foundations of our society are presently being eroded by a rising tide of mediocrity that threatens our very future as a Nation and a people.” Perhaps the title of a sequel should be: A Nation Still at Risk . The only way we will see prices fall for the long term is to run the economy at full bore and fill those empty warehouses. She’s voting for Abbott.. Fill the empty fuel storage tanks.. RE: “Abbott has moved further right,” Front page,” Oct. Raymond W. 16: This is precisely why I am voting for him! I am so grateful Texans have this governor, who defends people, no matter how young, and respects nature! Amy Maloney . .. but this doc isn’t I am a retired obstetrician/gynecologist who belongs to the American Medical Association and the American College of Obstetricians/Gynecologists. I cannot understand how Senate Bill 8 passed without listening to input from physicians. The position of ACOG on abortion is “Abortion is essential care. ” The American Medical Association, at it’s last annual meeting, posted eight points that explicitly explain why, beginning with: “reproductive health care including contraception and abortion is a human right.” Since the passage of Senate Bill 8, approximately 500 obstetricians/gynecologists petitioned the American Board of Obstetrics/ Gynecology to take their oral boards by teleconference instead of having to come in to Dallas. They were afraid of “bounty hunters” ready for a $10,000 bounty on their heads. I am Catholic. I have never done abortions. But I have never forced my personal beliefs on others. With the passage of Senate Bill 8, abortion is not legal in Texas. I am worried that some women will resort to back-alley abortions and end up in emergency rooms. I’ve seen women with multiple punctured holes in the uterus and sometimes punctures in the intestines. I am worried there will be a sharp increase in these secretive procedures that are not sterile. Again, I do not understand how politicians passed Senate Bill 8. I hope women will get angry enough to vote these politicians out. Gloria R. Herrera, M.D. DeBerry is rock solid I’ve read two unflattering letters about Trish DeBerry, the Republican candidate for Bexar County judge, in the “Your Turn” section. Both were off the mark. One complained about DeBerry stumping at a VFW post. That’s what people running for office do — it’s perfectly normal. The other acknowledged that the county is indeed a business, but asserted only Peter Sakai, the Democratic candidate, has the moral character to be judge. That’s baloney. DeBerry’s moral character is rock solid. Sakai may be a moral guy, but should he be running the county? The dark money ads attacking DeBerry raise moral questions. If DeBerry works half as hard as county judge as she is working on the campaign trail, we will have a very solid elected official for the next 20 years. Mitch Meyer .
