Letters to the Editor — Finding meaning in the modern world taxes Parkland shooter Re: “What if Americans got off the hamster wheel?” by Patrick B. Whalen, and “Spiritual, but not religious,” by Peg O’Connor, Sunday Opinion. The Dallas... Money, malaise, meaninghas really homed in on significant cultural themes involving work, money, malaise, meaning and spirituality.And setting the table before them all, business columnist Scott Burns chimed in on work and wages, identifying “something wrong” that impedes our quality of life (Sept. 25). Namely, that we’re “addicted to wealth” and to our belief that “more money will bring … life satisfaction and happiness,” thus making work our deity. Time, the great equalizerI’ve had the good fortune to have traveled extensively in Asia, Europe and Central America. Although there are cultural differences, a smile and a friendly greeting are universally accepted. Similarly, when we follow the impulses of the better angels of our nature, there is hope for a better world as individuals and as corporate members of society. Read more:
