Article content “It’s not even like the financial component or the business component,” she says of what stands out about the event. “But just like the love and the community component has been the biggest surprise and the biggest win for me.” Harris hopes to hold a similar event at her farm next year.. “I just love doing things,” she says of her various on-the-go projects. “I love keeping things exciting. It’s sometimes hard to identify what is work and what is personal, which is really, really great.. Sometimes.” One thing Harris, a so-called “small-town girl from Northern Alberta” admits she has struggled with in recent years is establishing boundaries, for herself, limiting the access into her personal life for her online fans. Article content “Pre-pandemic, I shared everything,” Harris said, noting that her willingness to broadcast herself and her family so openly on social media has drawn some criticism from her husband. A “social blunder” on Instagram prompted Harris to step back from her accounts with the aim of setting better boundaries for herself and her family as she navigates the online world of fans and foes. “It wasn’t about how much I was going to share,” Harris says.. “It’s a combination — I try to respect my husband’s privacy and my kids’ privacy. I feel like I don’t have privacy. I’ve always been that way … “But I think what I realized during the pandemic, and for the last couple years, is there’s my family to consider.. And also now I’m running a business. So there’s my employees and my business to consider. And also my community.. And I have to actually start thinking about how does who I am and my influence affect everybody else?” Advertisement 9 This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. Article content Nowadays, Harris says she asks herself a stream of questions before deciding to push “publish” on her posts. “I think I’m just more conscious of what am I going to share? And how will that affect more than just me? Who’s listening? Who is involved in the story? Is this my story to tell? Do I know what the hell I’m talking about? And if not, how can I reframe this conversation into just being transparent that, hey, there’s something to be curious about, but I don’t know anything about it.. Can we learn together as a community?” The evolution of her understanding of the tools of her trade — and the impact she has on others — is an element of her journey as a “storyteller” and “conversation starter” that Harris says is ongoing. “Sometimes I still am tone deaf. Or sometimes, Justin will still say, ‘Why did you share that?’ And I try to, you know, regroup,” she says.. “I try to use this time on Earth and my platform for some kind of good, whether making people laugh, whether I’m starting a conversation, good or bad, whether I’m teaching somebody something or they’re teaching me something. “I know it seems trite, and the world is falling apart right now and there’s so much going on. … I can’t solve the world’s problems, but I can make people laugh and teach them how to make spaghetti and inspire them to decorate the front porch.. So, when we all go to hell in a hand basket, hopefully everybody’s porch will look fantastic.” Share this article in your social network Share this Story: .
