Now, after decades building a legendary music career, a collection of his paintings and assemblages are being displayed at the New York Academy of Art. And his latest release — out this week — is a book, titled"John Mellencamp: American Paintings and Assemblages," of his artwork. Among this week’s three performances, the Cantone was first to go, with the fewest number of votes. The cover of his latest studio album,"Strictly a One-Eyed Jack," is also a self-portrait. “So obviously, I wasn’t around for that stuff. The album includes several duets with Bruce Springsteen, who he has also painted with. Robo Girl won, and moves on to next week’s episode. "He was pretty good, you know," Mellencamp said about the time he painted a"huge" piece with Springsteen. Mermaid performed “Any Dream Will Do,” then entered into a battle with “Robo Girl” on “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina” from Evita . "And he was really, really enthusiastic. But also, you know, Gloria Gaynor was voted off so I think that I was in really good company,” Cantone said. Then during the pandemic, I realized you could find entire basketball games from the '80s, '90s and 2000s on YouTube. He was really enthusiastic, and he really tried hard. I was proud of him. So that helps heal the wound a little bit." "As a matter of fact, if he came to my house again, it'd be like, 'Hey Bruce, let's paint,' and he'd go, 'OK. His 2022 MJ Lenderman album, “Boat Songs,” is a ghostly and gorgeous collection of wayward tales that ranks among the best releases of the year.'" Mellencamp told CBS News he used to watch his mother paint at their Indiana home, and at some point, he started painting on her paintings. But I really liked this one. And why did Gaynor come on board? “I’ve been watching it, it just looked like so much fun,” she explained. In 1974, he left Indiana – where he was a singer in a cover band – for New York. He looked into taking art classes, but his musical talent caught the attention of record companies.” “Andrew Lloyd Webber Night” opened with judge Nicole Scherzinger singing the songwriter’s “Memory,” from “Cats. Lenderman posits that the basketball superstar was not beset by an illness during the contest, but rather by some late-night boozing, as the singer triumphantly closes out the song by belting out “I love drinking, too!” While Lenderman deftly plays the court jester, what makes his album so special is his ability to imbue his scraggly band of characters with an unlikely brand of pathos and gentleness.   He quickly landed a record deal, and had a few modest hits under the name Johnny Cougar. His fifth album,"American Fool," was his breakthrough.” For Maize, Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg was right with Mario Cantone.  Mellencamp said three songs on the album –"Hurts So Good," Hand to Hold on To, and"Jack and Diane" – were"hated" by the record company, but went on to become top-10 singles. “Boat Songs” is rife with those kinds of figures — salty sailors proud of their latest beat-up boat, jilted lovers consoling themselves with the comfort of TV, down-on-their-luck townies welcoming back their friends for the holidays.   "The good thing about that was they never ever bothered me again, ever," Mellencamp said. Nicole Scherzinger picked Jonathan Groff.   Early on, Mellencamp says, he tried to control his songs, but found that similar to painting, it was better to not second guess himself. "I learned that well, like with painting, let the painting go where it wants to go. Guest judge Andrew Lloyd Webber thought it was Jack White. It might all be fake, but try explaining that to your daughter who just witnessed your friend hit you in the head with a chair. True art is when the artist is surprised himself," he said. In the span of Mellencamp's career, he would go on to chart twenty-eight singles on the Billboard Hot 100. Ken Jeong said Cher. But his love for art would always be in the background and would be his sanctuary. There is this one scene where (wrestler) Mick Foley is walking down the hallway after one of his matches and he’s with his two little kids and his wife and they’re all just crying from what they witnessed.   He called his art studio in Indiana his"favorite place in the world to be. Andrew Lloyd Webber picked another Gloria, Gloria Estefan."  "It's quiet. It's just me, you know. “Ot was difficult and scary, but at the same time it was it was really smooth, because there’s a lot of people helping you and doing everything they can to make it easy and workable for you.C. There is oil paint, and canvases, and cigarettes, and everything I love right there, you know," Mellencamp said.   As far as what he gets from the act of painting, he said. The producers, musical director Miguel Allison, who was the vocal coach, and then I have my husband Jerry Dixon, who is a Broadway singer."You walk up to a canvas and it's you. The mountains tend to cover up the best signals, after all. You know, you have a problem," Mellencamp said. We rehearsed it at home and he did a lot of the musical rehearsal stuff for me."See, everything to me is a problem." He said he doesn't yet know where one piece he recently started is going. Multiple eliminations in one episode are the norm this time out, as “The Masked Singer” adopts a new “King or Queen of Masked Singer” format. Those are the artists who I really admire. "I'll figure something about," he said, looking at the painting-in-progress."I'll solve this problem. That will continue throughout the season, as after each round, three finalists will compete in the semi-finals." Trending News . On his most nakedly candid songs, such as “Under Control” and “Toontown” he concedes to insecurities in an intensely introspective way.
