As it turns out, the Las Vegas area was witnessing heavy rainfall. The rain was so heavy that there was a fair bit of flooding and some of it affected the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. A lot of the reactions cycled between being relieved that there was rain, to people thinking that the Vegas desert weather was just plain mad.
