At the trial Thursday, a Bureau of Criminal Investigations agent read aloud text messages between Jake Wagner and Hannah Rhoden from November 2013, documenting their custody strife — which began before their daughter, Sophia, was even born. Prosecutors have said the furious disagreements between Jake and Hannah over Sophia’s upbringing were the main motive behind the massacre. We’re glad we’ve gotten to four district wins and now we want to keep moving up the ladder, but we know (Seguin) has a good team. In text conversations presented in court, Jake and Hannah clashed repeatedly over their relationship, where they would live and who their baby would stay with, reported WCPO . Prosecutors believe the bloodshed stemmed from a custody battle between Edward “Jake” Wagner, right, and his girlfriend. AP Hannah Rhoden, the mother of Jake Wagner’s daughter, Sophia, did not want to live with his family and claimed he abused her. Juan’Yae Taylor added 70 yards on four carries and a 48-yard touchdown catch, Cameron Smith added 111 passing yards and two TDs through the air along with 38 rushing yards on 13 carries. Facebook Jake, who began dating Hannah when she was 13 and got her pregnant two years later, insisted they move in with his parents and brother, but his girlfriend resisted. “I done told u she is living with me now u can live with us or not that’s ur choice,” Jake wrote in a text to Hannah on Nov. 4, 2013. Up next: Things don’t get any easier for either team, as they face the top two teams in the District 12-5A-I standings next week. Hannah replied that if he tried to take the baby from her, it would be his worst mistake. “Hanna I’m telling you right now make a choice and make it now if u do this it’s over and I’ll take Sophie and if I have to by force,” Jake replied. “I love u with all my heart if u love me and Sophie u will make the right choice I want u to live with me and Sophie.m. That don’t mean we have to stay at my house all the time but she will live wear ever (sic) I am.” The couple fought via text about their daughter before she was even born. WCPO In a message shown in court Thursday, Jake wrote to Hannah in November 2013: “I’ll take Sophie and if I have to by force.m.” WCPO The couple continued bickering via text for the next two years, with Hannah refusing to live with his family and insisting they get their own place. In March 2015, she sent Jake a text that read: “I don’t want to be with you. You hurt me,” alluding to alleged domestic violence. The couple ultimately split, and the fight over custody of their daughter intensified. Rhoden refused to sign papers agreeing to share custody with Jake’s brother, George. “They will have to kill me first,” she wrote in a message on Facebook in December 2015. Prosecutors said members of the Wagner clan spent months preparing for the attack on Hannah and her family, including building homemade silencers and procuring phone jammers to prevent the victims from calling for help. Most of the victims were shot in the head as they slept in trailers and a camper. Some of the deceased were said to have been targeted, while others were killed simply because they were there. The attackers spared the lives of two babies and a toddler. George “Billy” Wagner III, Angela Wagner and sons George Wagner IV and Edward “Jake” Wagner were each charged with eight counts of aggravated murder. Ohio Attorney General Jake Wagner pleaded guilty last year to counts of murder and related charges, confessing to killing five of the victims. As part of Wagner’s plea deal, he would be spared the death penalty if he testifies against his brother and father. Angela Wagner also pleaded guilty to taking part in the murderous plot and agreed to give evidence against her husband and son in exchange for a 30-year prison sentence. George Wagner IV’s defense has argued he was not directly responsible for any of the murders and only went along with the plot out of fear his father would kill Jake. George Wagner III has pleaded not guilty and is expected to go to trial after his son. Share this article: .
