Texas Tech decided to add their alumnus to the Ring of Honor and Hall of Fame club. This announcement was made on Saturday by the school’s athletic director Kirby Hocutt. Mahomes will be enshrined in the school’s elite club with special recognition as one of the best athletes to have represented the institute. ADVERTISEMENT Article continues below this ad Although Mahomes began his career as a baseball fanatic, and was inclined towards basketball, the quarterback saw his real purpose after playing football. “When you look at the face of the NFL, that is Patrick Mahomes,” Hocutt said during the Hall of Fame announcement. Patrick is an NFL MVP and a Super Bowl champion. But he’s, most importantly, a Red Raider who remains an avid supporter of our great university. As a freshman, he started as a backup to Davis Webb. Later the same year, he was promoted to the starting position after Webb incurred a season-ending injury. In the subsequent seasons, Mahomes threw for a total of 9,705 yards and registered 77 touchdowns. He was successful in setting a new FBS record with 819 yards for a 66-59 loss against Oklahoma in 2016. With this Ring of honor, will become the eighth member to achieve this feat since its inception in 2012.

He was selected in the first round of the 2017 NFL draft. The subsequent year, he won the NFL MVP and Offensive Player of the Year award. He played as a backup for Alex Smith as a rookie but later took the field by storm. It seems a Hall of Fame Induction was unexpected for the quarterback.
