In June of 2022, Ampex acquired DFW-based fast casual disruptor bellagreen. What was the biggest challenge to growth the past few years and how did you overcome it? We initially hit very hard times, but our franchise units started drawing new customers when independent restaurants remained closed. We acquired Au Bon Pain in 2021 and bellagreen in 2022 after recognizing the opportunity to turnaround brands that didn’t weather the pandemic as well or were looking to divest. We turned the challenge into opportunity and now focus on staying on course, despite a very volatile market and a greatly expanded organization. Read more:

We turned the challenge into opportunity and now focus on staying on course, despite a very volatile market and a greatly expanded organization. This happened quickly and our business grew rapidly, while our employees were having to work from home. Where do you see growth opportunities for 2023 and beyond? We anticipate significant growth for our acquired restaurant brands. Au Bon Pain will open 11 new locations in 2022, signed four new franchise agreements and announced a new bakery designed to be rolled out companywide in 2023. Our great employees stepped up and did the rest by going above and beyond, and working harder than ever. At the same time, our company is thoughtfully planning bellagreen’s growth strategy, expanding its unique combination of fast-casual convenience with high-quality menu items and personalized service of fine dining. What is something that will change your industry in the future? Dining changed after COVID and customers now value convenience and off premise dining, yet still want a quality experience for special occasions and dining with friends. This will provide opportunities for us and allow us to grow our team by acquiring new, good talent. Being able to provide this experience will be a game changer. Our brands, whether we are the franchisee or the franchisor, satisfy the new consumer for every dining occasion. Documentation requirements are significant and technology has and will continue to make these requirements more seamless. What advice would you give to a company in your industry that is in a much earlier stage of growth? Find a relevant mentor to lean on who you can bounce ideas off of and build confidence in the decisions you are making. Surround yourself early with a team you can trust to help drive your mission. What advice would you give to a company in your industry that is in a much earlier stage of growth? The mortgage business is a relationship business. Bottom line is, you cannot do this alone. Find your people.
