Well if its a new 2d side scrolling mario bros game lets hope they revamp the engine from the boring, generic "new" series. That style is staler than 2 year old bread. I’m guessing they’re looking for LEVEL designers since they use that term. Regardless of whether the goal is new game in a franchise or new IP, you would think they have that part covered and want some new blood setting up nuts and bolts level ideas. Plenty of talent giving them a run for their money there, they just have to wade through a lot of sloppy slap togethers to find them. What they’re actually looking to do is something to ponder, though. If you look at what the Switch already has: Mario: Between NSMBUD and SMM2, and all the 8 and 16 bit games in the online, they kind of dilute the specialness of putting out a new 2D Mario (unless they go for a whole new style, I’d like a Cuphead approach but I don’t see them imitating an indie game with their star character) Donkey Kong: The odds of this are better, but with Tropical Freeze selling even less on Switch than on Wii U, they may be nervous to put money into a follow up. Yoshi: So far, no system has gotten more than one of these, and Switch already has Crafted World (and the original with the online). Kirby: Well, Kirby games never seem to rate in the same space as the above franchises. They seem to be their own thing, almost like the Sesame Street of platformers. They’ve milked the ones they’re known for for so long, it’s hard to picture what they’d do as a fresh concept. Whatever their plan is, it’s good to see the intention to create new 2D games. 24 years since Mario 64, and it’s still pretty clear that 3D can’t completely replace 2D game design. Releasing 3 or more highly popular games on the same cartridge, or just all within a short period of each other would result in much lower sales than if they did the same thing over the course of several years. Sure, but the 2D levels only occupy a small portion of the 3D Mario games. All of the kingdoms in Odyssey are 3D levels, as are the the worlds in 3D World/3D Land and the galaxies in Galaxy/Galaxy 2 - the 2D portions only account for tiny parts of the games. If its a 2D action game why is Mario on the cover, it is a platformer not an action game. :/ I don’t know man.... The 3ds versions turned into a mutant sewer creature and attacked 4 men! And one was a Fling Smash owner! We don’t need that happening again It'll be a BOON for the therapy industry. I hope it's a new Wario Land [insert.name] confirmed!!! Clearly a Zelda 2 sequel, finally. there is a very low chance of a new DKC! The thing is nintendo always uses weird terminology and "2D action game" could mean anything.
