The new resort is expected to open by the end of 2023 next to the Cardinals' stadium and Westgate Entertainment District in Glendale. Click through to see images of the construction progress. The Phoenix Business Journal recently toured the construction site of the $1 billion resort being built in Glendale to see how much progress the developers have made on the project so far with an indoor and outdoor Hot Wheels roller coaster, Barbie Beach House, Mattel Games mini golf, laser tag, go-karts and Thomas & Friends electric powered passenger train.The resort will feature a 1,200-room hotel, 6-acre water feature, $40 million 360-degree concert stage, a dozen restaurants, a 52,000-square-foot party island and an 80,000-square-foot shopping corridor. Marcussen had worked for the NBA team for over 15 years from 2004 to 2019 when he resigned. The original concept for the project, called Crystal Lagoons, was slated to open before the Super Bowl in 2023 and had been led by Epic Resort Destinations LLC and Florida-based Crystal Lagoons. “We are obviously extremely excited and honored for the WM Phoenix Open to have an elevated purse and feature so many of the best players in the world for the 2023 PGA Tour season,” 2023 WMPO tournament chairman Pat Williams said in a statement. Now led by the Fishers, who were initially brought on as a general contractor and financier for the first concept, VAI Resort is slated to open in late 2023. Details: Flower Child restaurant has locations in Gilbert, Arcadia, Desert Ridge, Uptown Plaza, Scottsdale and a soon-to-open Chandler store.
