In 2019, they made a total of €6.5 million (£5.6m), even with the launch of that August, but they more than doubled that profit in 2020, with their operating profit hitting €13.2 million (£11.5m). As GI.biz points out, this was all achieved without launching a single new game. Although Control launched on Switch at the end of 2020, it's a port of a 2019 game, so it's not technically new. It did significantly contribute to Control in December 2020, though - the Switch's Cloud Version launched in October, and November was subsequently the best-ever month for sales for the game. We do know what Remedy is making next - they're already , creating the single-player campaign for Crossfire, and developing in-house, which we don't know much about beyond it being a narrative free-to-play multiplayer game. Might be interesting to see cloud gaming takeup by region, along with typical region internet speed and cost. Annoys me the cloud version did so well. Yes, they deserve credit for what seems to be a good game, but cloud gaming is not a future I look forward to... I'd love to know the sales figures for Control on Switch. I'm gonna get it later for PS5 or Series X. Remedy makes great, unique titles. As a suplemental feature to play bought games on a modern smart tv without having to actually have a pc when you wanna show it to a friend etc. or you go to a hotel and you log in to your account and you can just play using a controller, it has merrit just not as a substitute to actually 'owning' games. I'd say it's a mix of the Switch version and Steam availability after the timed Epic exclusivity period. I know I certainly bought it on Steam as soon as it came out. Also, although Control was released in 2019, it's worth speculating that consistent word-of-mouth along with best-of-the-year mentions in late 2019 and early 2020 — buoyed by continued media coverage given the DLC, Steam, and Switch releases — likely played a part. Not to mention the growing relevance of ray-tracing in the videogame conversation, for which Control remains one of the main showcases. It's almost as if EG's "throw money at the wall and see what sticks" method doesn't really draw customers... curious... Why isn't this news worth reporting?
