Crews break ground on Piazza Miramare in San Pedro Piazza Miramare is being built in hopes of paying homage to the large Italian community in the area, with the goal of turning an under-utilized plot of city land into a plaza to celebrate their culture. After years of planning, ground was finally broken on what will soon be Piazza Miramare in San Pedro, a dedication to the large Italian community living in the area. The ceremony was held in accordance with Italian-American Heritage Month, and when finished, the spot will be home to the country's newest Little Italy, along 6th Street and Harbor Boulevard. Little Italy of Los Angeles AssociationJoe Buscaino, Italian-American City Councilman who represents the 15th Council District, was a part of the plan that began back in 2018, when he hoped to dedicate the area to the first Italians to become Angelenos, the fishermen and dock workers who moved to San Pedro back in the early 1900s.
