As a result, she will have to complete nine years in prison with a prisoner swap deal being her only hope. She will be spending her time in a prison or labor camp. Talking about the living conditions, an ex-inmate described horrid living conditions which will be detrimental for the basketball star. Ex-inmate divulges bizarre details about Russian jail

was a star even before her debut in the WNBA. Blessed with a physicality like no other, she dominated opponents on the court. However, her large 6-foot-9-inch frame causes a major problem in jail. According to a former inmate, there is a factory in one of the labor camps where the work is done in living zones. There would be 80 women living in one room with just three toilets and no hot water. Moreover, she also described what the prison looked like. She said, “This is not a building with cells. This looks like a strange village, like a Gulag [labor] camp. It actually is a [labor] camp because by law all the prisoners should work. The quite cynical thing about this work is that prisoners usually sew police uniforms and uniforms for the Russian army, almost without salary.” Due to the sensitivity of the case and Griner’s fame, there is also a chance the Phoenix Mercury star would be targeted by fellow inmates and guards while in prison.

A few weeks ago, Cherelle Griner was on a call with her wife. She described the call as ‘the most disturbing call’ while also revealing that Griner is at her absolute weakest moment in life. Officials have been negotiating a prisoner swap deal that would send Griner and former Marine Paul Whelan back to the United States of America.
