Though the date and venue are yet to be declared, the fight is most likely to take place early in 2023. The winner of the contest will become a mandatory challenger to Alvarez’s WBC throne. As Canelo has already expressed his intention of not facing any Mexican fighters as he represents Mexico. Therefore, if Benavidez, who is Mexican, emerges as a winner, then what will Alvarez do? Well, Benavidez’s father has a reasonable answer to this query.

Speaking to Izquierdazo, Benavidez Sr. , “To be honest, Canelo will not fight David Benavidez. I think he will try to vacate that belt. He will pretend to be angry and won’t take the fight with David Benavidez.
