Who had that on their 2022 bingo? by Share: It's lovely to see a meme finally reach a conclusion, like when , or when last year. Now, we have another entry in ongoing memes that eventually came to fruition: The Pope loves . This one began back in 2016, when YouTuber MatPat was invited to represent YouTube in an interview with the Head of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis. It was part of a conference on bringing the world together through the internet, but that's not important — what's important is that MatPat, when told that it was customary to bring the Pope a gift representing his country (the United States), he decided to bring... a Steam code for Undertale. on "Undertale represents an evolution for gamers," says MatPat in the above video, "making it the single best representative of where we are as a community today." He went on to say that games are often portrayed in the media as violent, unpleasant, and crime-ridden, but that Undertale represented the good in games: the pacifism, the kindness, and the community. Unspoken in the video, but probably also true, was that the Pope would probably love a bit of Sans. Fast forward to January 5th, 2022, and Pope Francis held a General Audience, which he does every Wednesday to greet pilgrims. This one was a little different, though, because around 1 hour in, he would be treated to a jazzy little performance of Megalovania — one of Undertale creator Toby Fox's musical compositions for the game — accompanied by a performing circus troupe: - Ultima #вʟм (@UltimaShadowX) And he loved it. Well, of course he did — it's a banger, for starters, and it would be a bit un-Christian of him to yawn his way through one of his only duties as Pope. But he did a little clap! Sadly, this was also the audience in which Pope Francis said that , so it's not all good news. Maybe he needs to play through Undertale again. Comments ) It's a bit strange that they chose to play a theme best known for the final boss fight of a game's "Genocide route", isn't it?
As opposed the theme "Hopes and Dreams" that's featured in the game's "Pacifist route". Ah spinning things with ones feet...what a strange skill to spend so much time perfecting. I almost had a stroke reading the title lol From what I was taught in Catholic school… genocide route fits i think this means we get 6 more weeks of winter The Pope should star in the new Mario movie. He's so cool! This takes “You feel your sins crawling on your back” to a new level. MatPat was able to make it a full circle I think if you actually read his statement, you’ll see that there’s nothing wrong with it. i don't like this pope, specially after his statment agaist having pets
oh... I mean good afternoon. RIP Novus Ordo Were people actually mad about MatOat giving him Undertale, or was it just funny. I remember other sectors of YouTube giveing the pope a surfboard, and someone else gave the pope their own book. Makes the game look pretty good in comparison. That’s one title for an article you don’t see every day. This whole chain of circumstances feels so, so surreal. It’s overwhelmingly fascinating how far reaching both Undertale and the Game Theorists are. Pope is right about the pets vs. kids thing. Most days, maybe every day, I'd replace my kid with a pet. I wish we had a streamer cam on the Pope's face during that whole even so we could see his full reaction Removed - inappropriate The Pope: We shouldn't judge couples for being in same-sex marriages, even though they can't naturally conceive together. Also the Pope: But we should judge couples for having pets instead of kids because the purpose of marriage is conception. Lol, what? agreed I mean that's cool I respect that, even if I disagree. dude, what the hell. agreed Dude....chill Right? What's the problem? I was just pointing out the hypocrisy of the pet thing. to be fair, his actual statement encouraged adoption, especially for couples unable to conceive, due to the number of children that don’t have families. It doesn’t really contradict his statement on same sex marriages.
I don't like this Pope (or most Popes) because of his work covering up the crimes of any Priests. This was a funny story though. I don't like this Pope but I agree with him about the pets. This news reminds me that I need to play Undertale, but my backlog is so long. Interesting article, but I’m not a fan of the non-gaming-related editorial comments regarding the Pope. I’m not Catholic, but it comes across as really condescending to imply it’s “wrong” for him to say that human children are better for society than pets, and weird to suggest that this idea would be “fixed” by an Undertale playthrough.
I think children requiring more sacrifice to properly raise than pets is pretty self-evident. considering his focus on poverty I can see how he wouldn’t be sympathetic to the first world phenomenon of pets being considered a potential “substitute” for raising human children. It is very annoying to see all these 30 year olds trying to live life as permanent teenagers, and not having kids simply because they’re lazy and don’t want the responsibility. I’m 15 and live in LA, sometimes I feel like I’m more mature than my neighbors lol Edit: There’s nothing wrong with being an adult and gaming/enjoying “kid” stuff. My parents enjoyed Spider-Man just as much as I did, and we talk about Disney parks all the time. I’m specifically criticizing adults acting like they’re 16 year olds. I mean, Megalovania is a good song. I hate that people either hear the song or see Sans and assume memes are all there is to both of them. Removed - discussing moderation Removed - flaming/arguing And what's wrong with not having or wanting kids? You really think the world needs MORE people than it already has? did you actually see his comment in context? He said that the decision to forgo parenthood leads to a loss of humanity. Now THAT sounds pretty condescending AND narrow minded to me. Removed - unconstructive Removed - trolling wait, so you think there's something wrong with people who don't want the responsibility of kids? WTF? you’ll have to explain to me why you find it either condescending or narrow-minded, because it seems like a pretty factual position to me.
I don’t object to people choosing not to have kids, I just object to this author’s presumption that readers of a gaming site should share her personal taste that people who think procreation is a good thing are morally flawed. The internet so often pushes for unnecessary homogeneity. An uncomplicated, simplistic lifestyle sounds good to me. shrug Weird thing to get all judgey over. saying that it leads to a loss of humanity isn't condescending or arrogant to you? He's literally implying that foregoing parenthood somehow makes you "less" human, which is an INCREDIBLY myopic and heteronormative thing to say. He's also spouting this crap as if it's scientific fact, instead of his most likely very poorly informed (and patriarchal) opinion. I feel like you’re the one saying you know the truth with which only bad people disagree. Also “heteronormativity” is a useless term to me when a) the vast majority of humanity fit that category and b) non-hetero can still choose to raise kids if interested. I have neither pets nor children, but declining birth rate/aging nations are not healthy from a societal perspective, as it produces greater burden on the younger generation to care for an older one which essentially never did anything for them.
I think parenthood — or at least some form of interaction with children — does provide personal growth and empathy in a way that animals which never outgrow or surpass us do not. So in short, I find your comments at least as judgmental as his while lacking the same pragmatic justification. there are PLENTY of people out there still willing to make and raise kids, so banging on about how it's "irresponsible" is just nonsense. Parenthood will do sweet fanny adams for one's personal growth if one never wanted to be a parent in the first place. People becoming parents out of a sense of "duty" is part of the problem, as they will often end up only being parents in the literal sense of the word, as opposed to actually encompassing everything parents should be. Go ahead, think of my comments as judgmental. I don't care. To judge is to be human. Your notion of "pragmatic justification" is pretty much all in your head and has not been supported by any evidence. Leave A Comment Hold on there, you need to to post a comment...
