This twist on SNK's popular Metal Slug series sees the side-scrolling shooter become a top-down, isometric strategy game. Plus it's got some pretty stunning pixel art. But today, publisher Dotemu has confirmed that the game — originally due to launch sometime this year — has had to be pushed back to 2023. The publisher took to Twitter along with French developer Leikir Studio to share the news. "Marco, Eri, Fio, and Tarma are tinkering away to make #MetalSlugTactics as explosive as possible on release, but the squad needs a bit more time in the shop to prepare for the battles ahead. I can wait for a more polished game My schedule is already pretty full for this year so I don't personally mind it coming next year. And Advance Wars still with no release date, plenty of tactics games in the future! Those publishers want as many delayed strategy games as those releasing this year. Take your time. yeah. my thoughts exactly. I had initial disappointment first, but quickly remember just how much I already have to play/is still coming. Yes I was looking forward to this game but they really should take their time. Should I somehow run out of games, playing old games I missed is always a possibility. I wonder how hard the difficulty will be since this is Metal Slug, because I am not very good at strategy games. It will probably still release before Advance Wars... ...but yeah. There are so many strategy RPGs coming out this year that this doesn't bother me a whole ton. I am looking forward to this game, and I don't mind waiting longer for a more polished product. Well that’s ok. This year is pretty packed. Take your time. A bit of a shame but I'll live. Long as it isn't indefinitely delayed arbitrarily like some other game I know of Go master Metal Slug 1, 2/X and 3 until then. They're essential. Between this and Silksonsg, 2023 is looking pretty good. This and 40k Darktide being delayed stinks. Too many delays.
