The First Review For Square Enix's Farming RPG Harvestella Is Now In Nintendo Life

Reaping and sowing by Share: Image: Square Enix Update [Fri 4th Nov, 2022 14:35]: Reviews for Harvestella should be dropping from today, but we're still working on the NL verdict here. So we'll be just a few more days while we finish off the game and polish up our thoughts. Keep checking back here until our review sprouts!

The game's out today, and we're ploughing away Original article [Tue 1st Nov, 2022 15:45 GMT]: As the crisp, autumnal leaves cover the ground, and the chilly nights draw in, it's the perfect time to snuggle up inside and play something a bit cosier. , Square Enix's attempt at breaking into the farming sim genre, should fill that gap nicely come this Friday when it launches as a console exclusive on Switch, and the first review for the game has now dropped (thanks, !). This week's scores have dropped, and Square Enix — in partnership with Live Wire — seems to have grown something quite pleasant, as the publication has awarded the game 8/8/8/7, or 31/40. Not bad at all! Harvestella combines action RPG and dungeon crawling elements, all with a job system, with the cosy routine of a farming sim. The game is out on 4th November, and you can download a demo from the Switch eShop right now. Square Enix and Live Wire have listened to player feedback on the demo ahead of the game's launch, and they'll be making various tweaks in time for its release.

Plus, winter is coming

Is it a JRPG with farming, or a farm sim with JRPG elements? What do you think of Harvestella's score? Will you be pulling this one from the ground this Friday? Let us know in the comments! Comments ) 31/40 is pretty bad by Famitsu standards lol, they gave Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival a 32/40 I hate farming simulation games. All the best to the fans. Obligatory Famitsu is rubbish comment. They gave X game X score. Famitsu gave Sonic '06 30/40, which everyone knows is 'not bad at all'. It feels like an unfinished game in terms of modern RPG's. There's 2 already! I'll help you keep track of these Famitsu comments from now on. Famitsu loves inflating their scores though. Oh, guess I was late to the Famitsu party. Sorry. I was originally planning to pick this one up at launch but I'm swamped with games I need to play at the moment so ended up deciding to cancel my preorder and just wait and see for now. If the overall reception is positive enough I might still end up grabbing it but it'd probably be in my backlog for a fair while. This score doesn't give me a whole heap of confidence though so we'll see. Honestly, I liked the demo. And I'm happy with the planned improvements, so I'll get it regardless. Tbf they also gave Sonic Mania a 32/40
Famitsu scores just are the most meaningless reviews out there It caught my eye but just started Xenoblade Chronicles 2 so that's a wrap for me for 2022. Indeed This games art direction is amazing, but it looks like there won't be any relationship/romance options which feel like such a staple of the genre, it feels like something is missing. Good thing this game is not a farming sim then; it's an Action RPG where you can use a farm to make come money on the side + use the results for buffs, similar to other games...and that's it. We thought it was going to be a hybrid heavier on the farming side like Rune Factory, so with a farming/combat ratio of 70/30...but it ended up being 5/95. The marketing got us good, it's indeed "just" a "life sim", as the steam description says, so we're soon going to be flooded with disappointed farming fans that expected a different genre altogether. So...you might like it, I don't know. It feels like this will be a solid 7/10, with some 6's and 8's here and there. Which means a pretty good game! I was going to get this whether the score was bad or not.I spent over 4 hours on the demo and enjoyed it alot.Unfortunately ever since catching Covid at start of October I've been ill with one thing or another so I just sit or lie in my bed either sleeping or playing on my Switch.
Hopefully this game or Mario And Rabbids will help with my recovery...ok,maybe getting off my backside and going for a walk will help more. like seriously, I don't know that about the game, so it's not all that heavily reliant on farming sim by what you're implying. I tried to like stardew valley but I couldn't and host of others as well in the same genre. Finally gave up trying.
Maybe i will give this another chance to convince me, because I like rpg genre so much. It's obvious Japan doesn't like farming sim games as much compare to just regular RPGs. I'm getting a little faming sim'd out. Loved HM64, FOMT and Wonderful life as well as Stardew. The remake of FOMT looks fun will maybe pick it up someday for cheap. Idk this one hasn't really piqued my interest Its still on the BF list but not pushing it though. Liked the demo. May buy. But too much else coming out to justify the investment By Famitsu standards 31/40 is a no no for me Meh. This game is like that really crazy hot super model who has the personality of an old shoe - you would definitely want to sleep with for a few nights, but that's about all, whereas with Rune Factory - while not nearly as sexy - is a lot deeper and generally more fun to be around, and is the sort of person who's very charming and can make you laugh - the best friend who you might fall for, and may even consider settling down with for the long haul. In other words, from what I've seen and played thus far, Harvestella is the epitome of style over substance. Here I really hope this game is really a 8/10 game! Don't expect a marvellous thing, just a good game that does things right. I'd like to remind people here that Fantasy Life has a 73/100 on metacritic. And I freaking LOVED it. Still interested in this one and am going to be reading the reviews closely to see if it might be something to add to my GIANT back queue. I'll wait for the NintendoLife score; it's sometimes a bit inflated also but I trust the overall review more than other sites. The demo was fun but not perfect; unless the full game is unexpectedly good or bad I would expect a 7 or 8. With me just buying Bayo 3 and Pokemon coming soon this sits in my wait for a sale list. It's been since Rune Factory 1 that I've played an Action RPG/Farm Sim, and despite me rolling my eyes at the prospect of SE doing this genre, I was surprisingly impressed by the demo. It truly feels like an RPG you'd expect from SE, with inspirations of FF and Crystal Chronicles, and pretty straightforward farming that eventually gets in livestock and expanding your home (not in the demo). If I had the time I would seriously consider playing the full game, but for now it'll need a hard sale (or GameFly rent, IF it'll be on GF...). I'll wait for more reviews before deciding to buy. It definitely won't be a day one buy. I rarely do that these days and prefer getting my games as cheap as possible with big discounts. This is one of those games I'll get cheap You reap what you sow...it's promising that they took feedback from fans after the demo and seemed to implement some of those things. We'll see if it pays off in the final product! I tried the demo, wasnt toooo impressed but its far from a bad game. More like a game which I would like to own and MAYBE play one day (but prolly wont because of backlog), in other words: gonna wait until a price drop. Currently playing Persona5R, and will play strikers after that, and then replay Persona5R, ... such a great game! As of late, Square Enix has had a pretty bad track record when it comes to anything beyond a grindy more traditional JRPG experience. I would also point out (again) that 31/40 is a relatively bad score from Famitsu, especially when you think about it as a percentage. Still, I would like to be pleasantly surprised by this. Famitsu, huh?
I don't really put much stock into anything they say these days. That's a little low by their averages, but I'll wait for more reviews before deciding whether or not to pick it up. same. I might get it later though. Leave A Comment Hold on there, you need to to post a comment...
