Year Of The Rat Max

Rats are known for being very smart and utilizing that intelligence to their advantage. That being said, they are also quite versatile and love to learn more from others. Despite being the youngest of Ash's group and not owning any Pokémon at the time, Max knew an awful lot about Pokémon from what he learned in his studies. Traveling with Ash gave him the opportunity to put his knowledge to the test while also gaining firsthand experience with Pokémon.

Year Of The Ox Dawn

Those born in the year of the ox are stubborn in their beliefs and goals. Once they've established a goal, they will be extremely diligent in working toward it. Dawn grew up knowing that she wanted to become a fantastic coordinator like her mother and never strayed from that path. She ultimately got the chance to make a name for herself after setting off on her journey with Ash and competing in Pokémon Contests all over the Sinnoh Region. Even after her first loss, she picked herself up and carried on.

Year Of The Tiger May

Tigers are natural-born competitors who aim for the stars. Having a rivalry only fuels them to work harder and outdo the competition. Like Dawn, May had a knack for competing in Pokémon Contests. There, she met her biggest rival, Drew, who belittled her skills as a coordinator. With a strong desire to prove him wrong and wipe that cocky smirk off his face, May pushed herself until she finally defeated Drew.

Year Of The Rabbit Tracey

Rabbits are compassionate and responsible people who get along well with everyone. They have an overall gentle vibe that anyone can appreciate. Tracey was one of the kindest and most mature of Ash's traveling companions. He often acted like an older brother to Ash and Misty, tended to injured Pokémon, and kept a positive and caring attitude at all times.

Year Of The Dragon Iris

Dragons possess the energy and enthusiasm to take on the world. Their bold and fearless nature allows them to make the most of their energy and put it to good use. Iris was a bit of a wild child who rushes into action at full force. Coincidentally, she trained several Dragon-types, and her dream was to become a Dragon Master. In Pokémon White, she was even the Opelucid Gym Leader who specialized in Dragons.

Year Of The Snake Lillie

Though they are generous and wise, snakes often need time to warm up around others before they can show their true selves. As one of Ash's classmates, Lillie loved to learn about Pokémon. However, she developed a fear of interacting with the creatures at a young age. With the help and support of Ash and her friends, Lillie was slowly able to open up and befriend the Pokémon around her.

Year Of The Horse Bonnie

Horses are always on the move with their high energy and impatient tendencies. They certainly are not afraid to make the first move. Bonnie might have been very young and small, but that didn't stop her from traveling with Ash and exploring the wonders of the Kalos Region. And although she was not a trainer herself, she jumped at any opportunity to meet and play with a new Pokémon.

Year Of The Sheep Clemont

Known for their gentle nature, sheep do not like to cause scenes and are strong advocates for peace. They might be a bit shy, but that's part of their charm. In contrast to his little sister, Bonnie, Clemont was a much calmer and shyer child. He was so shy that his bold sister would go around asking if anyone was willing to marry him. This only made Clemont more embarrassed, but it was worth a shot.

Year Of The Monkey Brock

Those born in the year of the monkey have a fun and humorous side to them. They're also quite witty, which only adds to their humor. In addition to being the knowledgeable one in Ash's original crew, Brock was also responsible for one of the most well-known jokes in the anime. In an episode where it started to rain, Brock cleverly said, "Hey, I know! I'll use my trusty frying pan as a drying pan," as he flipped the pan over his head.

Year Of The Rooster Cilan

Roosters are hard workers with a keen eye for details. They use their observations to better themselves and make practical decisions. Cilan had an obvious knack for cooking, and he couldn't have gotten there without all his hard work and dedication for the craft. In addition, being a Pokémon Connoisseur gave him excellent observation skills to determine the bonds and personalities of both trainers and Pokémon.

Year Of The Dog Serena

Patient, diligent, and loyal best describe those who are born in the year of the dog. They will no doubt remember and treasure the good people they encounter. When Serena was younger, she actually met Ash at a camp. She always remembered how he had cheered her up and gave her encouragement at that time. Ever since, Serena held onto that memory and shared it with Ash when they became traveling companions years later.

Year Of The Boar Misty

Boars have a sense of honesty and compassion as well as an appreciation for the finer things in life. As the original female traveling companion of Ash, Misty knew she had to speak her mind and be brutally honest when the boys got out of hand. The best example of this was her infamous habit of dragging Brock away from girls who were out of his league. She also has a deep appreciation and bias for the cutest and most graceful around.
