Skyrim 10 Things You Didn t Know About Calcelmo
Among some of the more memorable NPCs in Skyrim is without a doubt Calcelmo, the court wizard of Markarth. Here are 10 facts you may not have known. In the universe of , there are many characters who bring life into the world with their unique personalities and character designs. From essential NPCs met during the main quest to ordinary traders the player interacts with, every single character has their own place. Among some of the more memorable NPCs is without a doubt Calcelmo, the court wizard of . He can be found in the Understone Keep, on the left-hand side of the castle, just before the entrance leading into a Dwemer excavation site. Although he's part of a number of quests, there's a lot the player might not know about him. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY He s Voiced By George Coe
It's not uncommon to hear the same voice actors pop in the game for different characters. For Calcelmo in particular, he's voiced by George Coe, who's done a number of other characters within the same game. As such, the player might recognize his voice as that of Tolfdir as well, who can be found in the College of Winterhold across the province. His voice has also been used for Calixto Corrium and a few other minor characters found all across the province.- He s An Altmer
Since Calcelmo's always wearing a hood, it might be difficult to get a good look at his face. Moreover, the area he can be found in is very poorly lit, so it's not exactly evident what race of Tamriel he belongs to. Turns out, he's actually an , which is really no surprise given how pompous he might come across. That being said, he's not as arrogant as other Altmers around Skyrim, and could even be classified as fairly open-minded. He Has A Nephew
Calcelmo's family might be a big mystery overall, but there's one person who's always by his side and who's definitely related to him. Aicantar, his assistant, is actually his nephew and they seem to be the only family to each other around. Even if that's the case, Calcelmo often treats Aicantar with coldness and callousness and seems to almost force him to do his bidding. In Aicantar's journal, it's even revealed that he believes his uncle looks down on him. He Has A Crush
One wouldn't imagine someone like Calcelmo to have any romantic interest in anyone. However, that assumption couldn't be further from the truth. During the Book of Love quest, the Dragonborn actually finds out that he has a crush on someone. Faleen, the Housecarl of the Understone Keep, is Calcelmo's crush. Despite being a Redguard, and Altmeri usually seeing themselves as superior to every other race, Calcelmo seems completely infatuated with her. He Has His Own Tower
The cool thing about Calcelmo is that if he's needed, he's always pretty simple to find. He doesn't move to any other location but instead stays near the entryway to the Dwemer excavation site, and never even sleeps. Moreover, Calcelmo also has his own private quarters dubbed as Calcelmo's tower. It's a bit of a shame that he never actually goes into his quarters, but seems determined to stay at his little alchemy table. He Can Be Used For Leveling
For those looking to quickly level up their Speech skill, Calcelmo is pretty much the ideal pick. Whenever the Dragonborn negotiates a price with him, they'll be able to level up their speech skill quite efficiently. This is especially useful for those wanting to constantly level up fast without having to use other cheesy tactics to do so. On top of that, the player can score some pretty sweet Dwemer gear from his shop. He Buys Almost Anything
Calcelmo will occasionally buy things from the Dragonborn, especially if they happen to purchase Dwemer items and . A courier will be sent by him to speak to the Dragonborn, requesting to see some of the items they've bought. Interestingly, this same interaction occurs if the Dragonborn sells the executioner's cowl which can be picked up during the Dark Brotherhood opening quest within the Abandoned Shack and then buys it back from the merchant. He s Incredibly Old
It's difficult to say just how old Calcelmo is exactly. Altmeri do tend to live longer than some other species, but it's unclear when he was born. That being said, given his knowledge on some of the most mysterious things in the universe of The Elder Scrolls, it's safe to assume he's old even by Altmeri standards. Calcelmo even confirms this theory by stating in one of his dialogues that he's dedicated "two human lifetimes" into his research of the Dwemer race, and that's just the time of his life he actually spent working. He s A Prolific Author
Calcelmo isn't just a court wizard or the head of the excavation site within the Understone Keep. Above all, he's a researcher and an expert in Dwemer, and this had led him to publish some extremely notable written work that can be found all around Skyrim. The tomes Dwarves v1, v2, and v3 are all written by him, and they can even be purchased from his . He's also done a number of translations of some works, namely Falmer tomes. He s A Master In Falmer Language
Calcelmo's most important role in the grand scheme of things is his role as an expert in the matters of Falmer and Dwemer history and culture. However, he's particularly special for being perhaps the only person in all of Tamriel to have deciphered the language of the Falmer. Given that the Falmer are hostile and difficult to study, this feat is truly incredible. It's proven best in Calcelmo's Stone, which can be interacted with to advance in the Hard Answers questline of the Thieves Guild.
