Death Stranding Is Probably Just One Giant Metaphor About Kojima s Separation From Konami

So there's a new theory that describes Death Stranding as just one giant metaphor for Kojima leaving Konami, and it makes a lot of sense. via Digital Trends Death Stranding A great point was made at this year’s E3, and that’s Death Stranding is probably just one giant metaphor about Hideo Kojima’s separation from Konami. Death Stranding looks to be one of the weirdest games ever made. It comes as no surprise then that the game is being developed by Hideo Kojima, creator of the Metal Gear series, which is also one of the weirdest video game franchises in history. We’re learning bits and pieces as of the game via trailers as we approach Death Stranding’s release date, and one piece of information has come from an unlikely source. During an interview with Giant Bomb at this year’s E3, former Metal Gear producer and Camouflaj founder Ryan Payton floated a theory about Death Stranding that makes a lot of sense. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY This one is going to require a bit of explanation, so bear with us. Payton used to work with Kojima way back in the days of the core Metal Gear series, so he gathered some insight about the man and how he develops video games. Much of what finds its way into a Kojima game can actually be traced back to real-life. He’s very “autobiographical,” as Payton describes it, when it comes to games development, although heavily obscured by metaphor. In 2015, Kojima separated with longtime publisher Konami over creative differences with the Metal Gear franchise. "Clearly, the Konami separation experience was not a pleasant one," says Payton, suggesting that much of Death Stranding can be traced back to this separation as one giant metaphor. Specifically, Payton mentions an early trailer for Death Stranding where Norman Reedus’ character is lying naked on a dark, sandy beach in broken handcuffs. He’s connected by a cord to a crying infant, which then disappears. In this metaphor, the baby is Metal Gear, while Reedus is Kojima--his baby was literally taken from him. And then there’s more weirdness which we can only ascribe to Kojima’s brain. Genius and madness are very closely related, after all. Death Stranding comes out on PlayStation 4 on November 8th, 2019.
