A Sea Of Thieves Tabletop Game Is Arriving This Fall

Rare has tapped Mongoose Publishing to create a tabletop RPG version of Sea of Thieves. Via: dualshockers.com Sometime in October of this year you'll be able to sail the high seas from your kitchen table thanks to Rare's decision to use Mongoose Publishing to create a tabletop RPG version of . When Sea of Thieves was released in March of 2018 it became one of many, soon to be released, cross-platform titles published by Microsoft. While it received a lot of blow-back at first due to its technical issues and lack of quests, it wasn't soon afterward that hilarious YouTube videos helped to spark new interest in the game. Thanks to this newfound interest, consumers were treated to novels and comic books which fashioned themselves after the game and helped to ensure its sustainability despite the problems it faced. As if this wasn't enough, Rare has taken it upon themselves to go one step further and provide consumers with a full-fledged tabletop game. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY This certainly isn't the first time that a video game company has done something like this, but it's a bit surprising given that it might be rather difficult to reflect the nature of the game through such a medium. If the company can make the tabletop game a success, it will help to push other video game designers to do the same when the opportunity arises. Via: flipboard.com Through we learn that the tabletop game will come with two rulebooks, one entitled Lore of the Sea and the other entitled Book of Pirates. The Book of Pirates will explain the game's rules to the players, while the Lore of the Sea will help gamemasters to set up the game for play. Additionally, players will use the Book of Voyages, a book detailing a campaign, coupled with a world map, dice and cards, all with the expressed purpose of finding Ashen jewels. . The choice by Mongoose to create a game like Dungeons and Dragons is a good one given the complexity of the game itself. Using complex rulebooks, players will be able to enjoy many adventures like the ones they encountered in the video game and will even be able to modify them down the road. Creating the game in this way also allows Mongoose to continue to release new rulebooks and update the game as they see fit, ensuring that players don't get bored of it too quickly. While it is certainly an interesting concept, there is a concern about the price tag for such a game given that it may deter consumers who had never played the actual video game. Additionally, it may be difficult to create the type of immersion that is necessary to hold consumer's attention to the game for long periods of time.
