Pokémon 5 Things That Prove Charmander Is The Best Kanto Starter & 5 Things About Squirtle That Make It Better

Charmander & Squirtle are the most recognizable starters in Pokémon, being around since Generation I. But which is the better starter? Both of these starters in the franchise our beloved and they have been around since generation 1. They're both worth catching and most players wish they could obtain both of these however most games only allow trainers to pick one. The evolutions are some of the major selling points of these two starters! This list will go over some of the facts that make each of these Pokémon prime candidates for the player's partner Pokémon. From ability to learn to fly to Squirtle's cuteness, here are 10 great things about both Charmander and Squirtle! THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

Charmander - Its Evolution Is Way Cooler

This fire lizard's evolution it's so much stronger than the little blue turtles. It's an interesting looking creature it has a much more unique design. This is definitely one of the ways that Charmander is better than Squirtle because the appearance of a creature in the series is definitely a deciding factor on whether a trainer should catch it or not. They both look really cool however there's definitely one better-looking starter and that spot goes to Charmander.

Squirtle - It Has Advantages Over The First Few Gyms

The first few in the Kanto region are quite difficult for Charmander to manage. However, Squirtle is extremely effective against both of the gyms and because there aren't many other Pokémon to catch throughout the early parts of the region and it will be a necessity of players that want to get past the first gyms quickly. This is definitely something that drives players to choose Squirtle instead of Charmander because nobody wants a grind in the beginning. Players should keep this in mind the next time they play through one of the generation 1 games because it's definitely a factor worth considering. Picking Squirtle will make beating Brock and Misty a breeze!

Charmander - It s Shiny Form Is Better

The shiny form for Charmander and all of its evolutions is so much better than Squirtle. Its final evolution shiny form is black and that is a major upgrade from the boring looking Orange color. Squirtle barely changes at all when compared to its normal form so this definitely deserves a spot on this list. Charmander is just better than Squirtle in this regard and because shiny form is something that trainers care a lot about it was worth a mention.

Squirtle - It s More Loyal

In the TV show, it is shown that Squirtle is much more loyal to Ash then Charmander. Although Charmander eventually warms up to Ash it doesn't change the fact that early on and throughout the majority of the generation 1 TV show Charmander was extremely hostile towards the main character. Usually, it wouldn't listen to what ash had to say and would not obey his commands. This is problematic for any Pokémon partner because if they won't listen to its trainer than it will be basically useless in a battle.

Charmander - Its Evolution Is A Dual-Type

The evolution of Charmander is a dual Fire/Flying-type and that is much more powerful than the solo type that S sports. Perhaps a new form for Squirtle in the future will give it a secondary type however at the current moment the solo type just restricts the number of moves that it is able to learn. This definitely helps Charmander become the better starter because a larger move set and more type advantages are always a good thing. If players want the best competitive Pokémon to use in battle, then Charmander is their best option for sure.

Squirtle - It s Super Cute

Every starter Pokémon's 1st form will be extremely adorable however that doesn't mean that there is not one that comes out victorious in this field. Although Charmander is very cute when its young Squirtle is still more of a cutie pie than the fire lizard. Luckily players will warm up to either of these Pokémon and in the end, they will evolve so it's not the largest factor to terminal which one to pick however it's definitely up there on the list. Most players just prefer the turtle and its no surprise because of its cute little face!

Charmander - The Player Can Fly On Charizard

The final evolution of Charmander is a Flying-type and players can ride on its back to fly through the sky to their destination. This is an extremely useful feature because it means that players won't have to catch a Pokémon to help them get around. Unfortunately, there is no way for the final evolution of the turtle creature to fly however it does make up for it in a few other ways. This is just one more reason to pick Charmander because it will save a spot in the player's team.

Squirtle - It Can Learn Surf

Although Squirtle can not learn fly it can surf on the water and get players around the ocean. Getting around the water is essential in any Pokémon game and this is a great Pokémon that will help generation 1 players get to different islands throughout the region. The fact that Squirtle can learn surf is what makes up for the fact that the fire lizard can learn fly, and it may even be better because surf is essential to advance and fly technically is not. This is a great reason to pick Squirtle instead of Charmander and players should definitely consider it if they want a Pokémon that can swim.

Charmander - It Has Two Mega Evolutions

Although both of these creatures have Mega evolutions Charmander actually has two instead of just a single one. Most creatures in the franchise only got one Mega Evolution if they even got one at all. Because it is one of the only Pokémon in the series to get two separate Mega evolutions it deserves a spot on this list. Being able to choose which form the trainer's Pokémon can turn into is a great privilege that only Charmander has the honor of.

Squirtle - It Has High Defense

Because Squirtle is a turtle creature it has a high defense and its shell can protect from incoming attacks. Charmander does happen to have more speed than this turtle however the defense definitely makes up for that and more by making it durable to attacks. This earns the top spot on this list because having high defense is important for being able to survive in battle and defeat enemies during gym leader fights. Players should keep this in mind so that they can have the most powerful starter in the region that can take any attack head-on!
