League Of Legends The 15 Most Banned Champions Ever According To OP gg
Out of the many champions in League of Legends, these are the ones you'd see the least in battle because of how often they're banned. With about 150 different champions and balance changes every week, the competitive metagame of can be difficult to navigate. Everything from the simplicity of a character to deep strategies can alter who you might want to play, or who you’ll expect to play against. What’s just as affected by these shifts, though, is deciding who to ban at the start of a ranked game. With the full list to choose from, it’s a hugely complicated choice, and you’re safest going into a game knowing the hottest ones to ban. For noobs and pros alike, there are just some champions that will forever get banned in competitive play (and even in normals). Here’s 15 champions that, according to statistics site op.gg, are the hottest on the ban list this year. Updated by Juliet Childers on September 8th, 2020: Regularly banned champions run the gamut from support characters to top lane bruisers and jungling ninjas. Even pro players insta-ban or insta-pick some of these champions. That might mean that, if players can get proficient enough with them, they may be able to carry themselves out of bronze like Representative did during quarantine in 2020. Keep up with new ban trends across all of the LoL servers. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY Ekko
Ekko has had a fair bit of time to fit into the game since his release last year but with bannings in 28% of games, he seems to be something people fear. With lots of crowd control in the form of stuns and slows, it’s easy to get nervous around him and just want to avoid him entirely. The main reason to ban him, though, is his safety net of an ultimate, which rewinds him to wherever he was four seconds prior with fuller health and some damage to his opponents on return. This kind of sustainability can make him uniquely hard to kill, and a good obstacle to just avoid entirely. Diana
Diana goes hand-in-hand with Ekko, being banned in between 10% and 28.65% of games depending on rank. While she lacks the unusual ultimate, she has a similar library of crowd control and has a similar amount of versatility as both a middle lane fighter and a speedy assassin . What makes her more ban-worthy is just the mass of ability power damage she can do, exploding with her abilities any time she gets close to you. It isn’t as complicated to deal with as Ekko, but raw damage is something to be feared. Leona
Getting banned between 15% and 28% of the time, Leona certainly stands out from the previous two by being all about the stuns. She might not be able to kill champions herself, but with an explosive stunning ultimate with a long-range, she can be a menace in team fights. While she can be somewhat of a niche pick due to her lack of damage, it’s undoubtedly a type of power that’s welcome in a lot of games. If you think you’ll struggle against constant interruptions, it’s probably best to just keep her out of your opponents’ picks. Blitzcrank
At around 30%, Blitzcrank fits similarly to Leona, but with a much more unique and atypical style of crowd control. While Leona marches into the enemy, Blitzcrank’s pull and uppercut combo can immediately pull enemies into a team fight, and if he hits the right target, the fight could be over in an instant. Blitzcrank is far from an unusual ban target, and there are certainly tons of strategies against him as he’s been in the game since the very beginning. But just because something’s old doesn’t mean it can’t still work, and Blitzcrank is far from being sent to the scrapyard anytime soon. Senna
Senna's performance was lackluster when she first debuted. In fact, she and Pyke went back and forth on which one got banned more. But after a series of balance patches to lower his damage output, Pyke has thankfully become less of a menace. Senna fills that void with 10% - 30% of bans across tiers, both by being a fresher face and due to her interesting skillset. She can be a support champion or, as many players have utilized her, as an ADC champion. What truly pushes Senna over the edge is that unlike , her damage and utility comes with some long-range harassment attacks. There’s a reason Senna works just as well as a bottom lane assassin, and the power to fight with such distance makes her a solid ban. Master Yi
Master Yi is the biggest skip in percentages so far, being locked out of 34.22% of games. Much like Blitzcrank and Leona, Yi is far from a versatile tool but does a great job in the role he’s built for: having massive damage output and speed compared to other junglers and assassins. What makes him especially powerful is how hard he can be to kill. His efficient self-healing power and multi-target damage capabilities make him move so fast that you can’t target him. When stacked with lifesteal items to heal himself further, he either needs to be stunned immediately on sight or, better yet, banned. Yasuo
Yasuo has everything Yi has, but with a slightly higher ban-rate of 42.49%. While he isn’t fast enough to prevent targeting, his wind-barrier ability can make it impossible to land a ranged ultimate on him. It's also tremendously helpful in team fights and can completely negate enemy ultimates sometimes. His passive grants enough shielding that other mid-laners can struggle to get a takedown on him. Yasuo also isn’t as limited as Yi, having impressive crowd control for a variety of situations and working well in nearly any starting lane. He’s held back from being broken by being somewhat difficult to play, but is a fair hazard that deserves a consistent ban rate. Aphelios
The most complex champion on this list, Aphelios at a ban rate between 15% and 48% depending on rank. This champion is fairly locked in as a bottom-lane ranged assassin, but his unique ability to change weapons gives him everything from range, to crowd control, to even turret damage to hold his lane position. He's a common pick for pro-players. Aphelios’ complexity is just as much a strength as it is a downfall, and there are far more reasons to ban him besides his threat as an opponent. Few things feel as bad as when you're stuck with a teammate who doesn’t have a handle on their character, and sharing a lane with a bad Aphelios can be just as devastating as facing a good one. Keeping him out of a game for any reason is absolutely a fair call. Darius
Darius, as usual, sits near the top of the ban rate list with a rate of 48.08%. He’s a very straightforward champion with a lot of ways to deal damage, from bleeding his opponents to a destructive ultimate that resets on every kill he gets (broken). He has cemented his place in the metagame as a more menacing Garen with similar damage output but with some explosive attacks and a little more crowd control in the form of a frightening pull. Laning against Darius is scary, and if there’s anyone to ban out of fear, he’s certainly a rational choice. Sett
Sett, another popular champion for the pros, can go anywhere from top lane to mid lane to the jungle. His versatility gets him banned in between 11% and 49% of games depending on tier. He's also one of the newer champions on this list. As a result, many players will ban new champions just so that their teammates don’t get too ambitious with a champ they don't fully know how to use yet. His late game scaling, AOE damage, crowd control, and general swagger make him a very ban-worthy champion. He can also shield himself for nearly half his health. No big deal. Graves
In a shocking turn of events, many players - both casual and professional - have started taking characters like Graves to the jungle. With his dash, AOE damage, and serious kite and camp clearing abilities, Graves is a powerful answer to your average tanky jungler or even damage-focused champions like Rengar or Nidalee. With a ~20% ban rate on OP.GG, pro-players have inspired many amateurs to start experimenting with the characters they take through the jungle. Fans have seen jungle Karthus in the most recent Summer Split, as well as casuals bombing as Twitch going 0/15. Volibear
Having gotten a rework in April/May of 2020, Volibear saw renewed fan fervor and even competitive play in the , , and respectively. Though he no longer has his signature flip, his ultimate is now an AOE slam that does some serious damage. He can still get quite tanky while dealing damage and is great at counter jungling as well. For many teams, Volibear will serve as the only tank while bottom lane picks up a "support" Karma or Pyke and top lane picks up a damage-heavy Wukong or Camille. He has a ban rate of about ~28% across all tiers. Yuumi
Often described by League of Legends players as a "braindead champion", Yuumi can be quite a divisive character on the scene. Not only is she a cat, but her skill set is also a bit unusual as she has a kit of almost entirely buffs. Despite this oddity, pro-players have opted for her with varying degrees of success and failure in competitive play. Though not great as a solo-carry champion like Darius, Yuumi may be the right champion for you if you have a dedicated ranked duo team or bottom lane pair. Her synergy with specific team comps is what earns her a ~29% ban rate. Zed
A classic alternative to your standard ability-power focused champion in the mid lane, Zed has consistently been a thorn in everyone's side since his release all the way back in 2012. With better team fight capabilities than an Akali and superior scaling to even some AP champs, Zed has an impressive ban rate of about ~30%. Like Lee Sin or Nidalee, Zed can take some time to master. As such, his percentage ban rate gets higher in the higher tiers like Platinum, Diamond, etc. As with previous champions on this list, players who want to climb the ranks could consider him for a solo-carry champion. Yone
Debuted during the League of Legends Spirit Blossom event in the summer of 2020, Yone is Yasuo's older brother. He's a manaless assassin/skirmisher with a gap close, AOE damage, and on-hit effects. While many take him top lane, Sneaky of Cloud9 fame took him as an ADC in high-level ranked play. League of Legends lore claims that Yasuo killed Yone, but Riot decided to gloss over the detail for the surprise reveal in a -esque limited event starring some fan favorites like Ahri and their other newest champion . Yone's ban rate is around ~50% across all tiers.
