Be sure to reel in these scaly critters before the month comes to a close! In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, each month brings new fish, but also takes an assortment away. Fortunately, only a small handful of fish will be leaving your island's waters by the end of May, and you've likely caught at least one of them already. Regardless, be sure to reel in these scaly critters before the month comes to a close!

Loach

Does the idea of catching another loach fill you with reproach? You're not alone. The loach is the most common fish on this list. It can be found in rivers at any time of day. When casting your line for the loach, look for small shadows (on a scale of 1 to 6, it's a size 2). Once caught, you can sell it for 400 bells at Nook's Cranny, or to C. J. for a little bit more. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY To increase your chances of finding the loach, fish only in lowland rivers. Clifftop rivers offer a wider variety of fish, some of which are rare, but the greater variety also means you have a lower chance of catching the loach specifically.

Golden Trout

Friendship may be golden, but the golden trout is worth its weight in bells. The golden trout is another freshwater fish that swims specifically in clifftop rivers and ponds. It appears between 4 p.m. and 9 a.m. and has a medium-sized shadow (size 3). Along with the dorado and stringfish, the golden trout is one of the most valuable river fish, selling for 15,000 bells at Nook's Cranny. Blathers will always appreciate it as a fishy donation as well.

Oarfish

Like its real-life counterpart, this fish is rare, and has a shadow just a tad larger than the sea bass. As such, be prepared to catch a lot of fish you don't want in search of this serpentine swimmer. The oarfish appears in the ocean at any time of day, regardless of the weather. It sells for 9,000 bells at Nook's Cranny but also makes a great addition to the local museum.
