The Sims 4 Journey To Batuu 5 Reasons We re Happy To See Star Wars & 5 Reasons We Aren t

Journey To Batuu brings Star Wars into The Sims 4. We explore why it's a great idea as well as the reasons it could be a total disaster. After weeks of speculation, Gamescom Opening Night Live that the next stuff pack for will in fact be themed. The Sims 4: Journey To Batuu will take your sims on an adventure to the planet of Batuu, where they can be surrounded by the sights and sounds of Star Wars. The pack has already drawn criticism from the community and its trailer currently has almost twice as many dislikes as it has likes making it one of the most divisive themes to date. So, what are people excited for and why do so many people hate the idea of combining these two successful franchises? We take a look at the reasons we're excited about the collaboration and the things we're unsure about. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

Love The Combination

Two of the biggest franchises EA makes games for are finally coming together and these powerhouses match well. We already have , as well as some Star Wars-themed costumes. We're excited to see EA crank the crossover up to 11. It's a first for both franchises and has huge potential as Star Wars fans can finally live out their space-related dreams by being able to create Star Wars content in a sandbox world. Now we're in control of the story.

Unsure Spaceships Before Cars

While seeing an X-Wing and the Millenium Falcon in the trailer is hugely exciting there's something about the fact we appear to have more spaceships before we any form of cars that takes the edge off it. Cars have been a hugely requested feature for a long time and at this point, we can even build garages but yet have become a thing ? There's something about this that feels out of place.

Love Lightsabers

Lightsabers are a classic sci-fi weapon and a huge number of Star Wars fans dream of wielding one. Now it appears that not only can we create our sim selves but we can use them to fulfill our lightsaber dueling fantasies. We're looking forward to picking up the iconic blades in the game and seeing what adventures we can go on as we find a really good use for them.

Unsure Too Niche

While the combination is hugely exciting for Star Wars fans, it is very niche. It may draw in some newcomers but there is a concern that it may alienate more of the existing ones. While those who don't want to play can vote with their wallet, the negativity surrounding the theme is unpleasant. Game packs have always and been more limited in appeal but this time there is concern that this idea has been pushed too far. The fear is that it alienates too many players and leads to too much toxicity in the community.

Love Batuu

In the trailer, Batuu looks incredible. The planet on the outer edge of the galaxy is the focus of the Galaxy's Edge area of Disneyland and has enough Star Wars lore associated with it to make it recognizable but not enough that it's wrapped up in huge iconic tales from the movies. It's a perfect setting for a Star Wars-themed pack since it's a hub of activity for smugglers, adventurers, and rogue traders of a variety of species.

Unsure Townies In Batuu

One existing problem with The Sims 4 is the fact that regular inhabitants of Willow Creek, Oasis Springs, and other worlds commonly appear where they don't belong. Seeing Bob Pancakes become a spellcaster in the or Bella Goth wandering around every single world you travel to is very offputting. In the trailer, you can already see what looks like regularly dressed sims in the background and this has us worried. Seeing Don Lothario propping up the bar in the Cantina is something that, while potentially amusing for a second, is going to shatter the immersion of the pack.

Love Droids

Droids are an essential part of Star Wars and we're happy to see both R2D2 and BB8 types represented in the trailer. The EA website confirms that these can become your companion, after being purchased from the Droid Depot. We've always wanted a lightsaber but a droid as well? Now you're spoiling us. These core icons from the franchise will be a must acquire for many players and are a great feature.

Unsure Droids In Regular Worlds

While we are big droid fans we also noticed that you can bring your new companions home and this we're less sure of. Sure we and aren't against robots as such but somehow it feels wrong to remove them from Batuu. We also hate the idea of townies potentially wandering around with droids. This may be unlikely since we don't see it happen with servos, but it's still a concern. Droids don't belong in Willow Creek, however much we love them.

Love Missions

The pack is said to contain missions and this concept is hugely intriguing. The storyline played with the idea of missions and it was very well done. We've also seen exploration covered in Jungle Adventure so combining the two feels like a great idea. While we love the sandbox aspect of The Sims 4 sometimes we'd like more focus, a reason challenges are popular, and this may well provide that for us.

Unsure Limited Appeal Of Missions

Missions are appealing now but will they still be appealing a few weeks in? The was hugely engaging and enjoyable to play through but most players never touched it again. The same could easily happen here. A huge fear is that the pack's content dries up fast since it feels too repetitive and boring to play over and over, leading to it feeling boring very quickly.
