Pokémon 10 Things From The Beta We Wish Were In The Game

The Pokémon Beta was much different than the final product. These cut features should've made it into the game. Racking up nearly 25 years of content, it's hard to think that so much good material would be left on the cutting room floor still. From to game mechanics, there has been plenty of missed opportunities on the production side. Though most have legitimate reasons for not seeing the light of day, fans still have plenty of fight left for the forgotten pieces. Usually, when the team leaves something behind in the dust they don't go back to get it. Only now the fanbase is only getting louder, with more leaked beta material being revealed players are getting to see what they missed out on. Most of it should rightfully be left in the shadows but there are some diamonds among the coal. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

Gorochu - Red Blue

For fans that know of Pikachu's discarded second evolution, the decision is a puzzling one. Especially given that his first evolution, Raichu, wasn't shown nearly as much love as it should have. Expanding upon Raichu's already bulky form, it was even supposed to have horns and fangs. Being revealed that they eventually went the other way down the evolution chain and created Pichu instead. While it was definitely a win for the cuteness factor, players could have definitely used a powerhouse, especially one that has the aesthetic to back it up. Artwork by:

Cruz - Gold Silver

Though Tododile and his family were much respected when they first debuted in Johto, the scrapped designs definitely put up some heavy competition. Fans to this day express interest in this lost line coming back in current generations, almost 20 years later. Even its look top-notch, giving off a loch ness monster vibe at the final stage. The designs look a lot more elegant than the brutish Feraligatr we got, dividing fans as to which direction should have been left on the cutting room floor. Artwork by:

Beta Girafarig - Gold Silver

Less of a complete scrap, Giraffarig was supposed to go in a completely different direction. Switching from cartoonish psychic type to entirely darker energy, it's tail was supposed to be a completely different head. Looking like a 's Catdog gone wrong, it definitely would have made the pokémon more intimidating. It would probably also change the typing from Psychic/Normal to Dark, making it a lot more versatile in its offensive ability. Seeing the eerie face staring into your soul wouldn't be ideal for battle, but dedicated trainers will get used to anything.

The Kotora Family - Red Blue

Another missed opportunity at an incredible electric type opportunity, Kotora starts off as hands down the cutest thing in the game. A baby electric tiger who looks like it's eaten a few too many static gazelles, it even gives Pichu a run for its money. The even more depressing discovery is seeing it's planned evolution, Raitora. Evolving from cute to beastly, the muscled tiger could have been one of the coolest designs in the series. Taken out unfairly, most likely a Pikachu conspiracy, the tiger team would never see the light of day. Artwork by:

Shiny Celebi - Ruby Sapphire

Celebi has long evaded capture by most trainers, only available by in-person events at first. The Pokémon remains one of the most elusive, forcing players to find glitches to attain the mythical creature, with its shiny form being locked until recently. Now being released as Japan event exclusives still to this day, it's the only pokémon that didn't have a for years. Leaving the niche group of shiny hunters without a hope unless they happened to live in Japan.

Move Combinations - Ruby Sapphire

An idea that would have created a massive workload for the development team, Move combinations. Combining two moves in a duo battle to create an entirely new move, allowing a massive amount of possibilities to throw in the mix. Likely scrapped due to the complexity that it would add to both strategy and design, it's one of the more interesting game dynamics out there. This combined with the supposed wild duo battles that never was would have blown the roof off battle strategies.

Eternal Flower Floette - X Y

Cutting out the evolution chain and offering an alternate form is a unique move that was never made, with Eternal Flower Floette only being 1 stat point removed from its final evolution, Florges. The alternate form turns Floette into a special attack machine with the strongest move in the game to back it up. It learns Light Of Ruin at level 50 with a whopping 140 damage. Making it one of the most powerful moves in the game, fans missed out on a chance to destroy opponents with flower power.

Porygon2 Lion Form - Gold Silver

Just for the sake of diversity in design, this would have been fun, turning the rather bland into a computerized lion is an unexpected breath of fresh air. Instead, they decided to stick to the status quo by simply rounding out its edges. Understandably, there isn't much reason for it to be a lion and it doesn't exactly fit into porygons odd character, but does everything have to make sense? Sometimes random, especially when it's endearing, is the best choice.

Female Rival - Red Blue

Those that have been with Pokémon since the early days, or went back and played through the earlier games, will remember Blue. The arrogant that had to be tolerated while you systematically beat him at every turn, all the while hurling abuse the player's way. Early in the design process, another female rival was considered as well. At the very least they could have taken the leftover starter, it never felt right abandoning a lonely Bulbasaur at the lab. More importantly, it could have broken up the monotony of running through Blue left and right.

Professor Oak Battle - Red Blue

The battle that never was, becoming quite popular in Pokémon trivia, players were supposed to battle as the conclusion to the game. Checking out logically as he has constant access to a myriad of Pokémon and given his age, plenty of time to train them. He was the highest level opponent in the game and a great final challenge, testing the pokemon's mettle against the man who set Red on the journey in the first place. The good news is that through a number of glitches, the battle can still be accessed if the effort is put in.
