How Can Giants Launch People Into Space

Players can get a great view of the entirety of Skyrim from up above before the game reloads a checkpoint. While it's certainly entertaining to become a human missile, how exactly can the giants do this? Trolls, dragons, or other large creatures can't fling players into the sky as giants can. Perhaps it's the mammoth cheese that gives giants incredible strength? No one knows.

What Does Ayarg Garag Gar Mean

Every other noise they make is tied to the same generic subtitle, so why is this sentence an exception? What does it even mean? It must bear some significance as its the only subtitle giants have that displays an actual sentence instead of a sound. Cut dialogue and scripts reveal a removed quest that would see players protecting faction supplies against hostile giants. Players could choose to spare the giants and recruit them to their cause, allowing giants in faction armor to fight alongside the player during major fights. Why was this cut? Considering how many dangerous creatures roam Skyrim, it's shocking neither faction decided to take advantage of giants or mammoths as siege weapons.

What Do Their Skin Marks Mean

Every giant in Skyrim has various skin marks that cover their entire body. These markings are strikingly similar to those made by the Picts, a group of Celts that roamed northern Scotland during the early Medieval period. no doubt used their markings as inspiration, but what do the markings signify? Do the giants use it as a rite of passage into a tribe? Do these markings bear a religious significance? The latter is more likely as every giant has the same markings on their skin.

Why is this? Fans have two theories: either Bethesda wasn't interested in creating female giants or that females aren't nomadic in nature. Since many giants from Skyrim come down from the mountains to , it would make sense that safe giant encampments would be inhabited and maintained by female giants outside of Skyrim's borders while the male giants searched for food.

No official material within provides an explanation as to where the giants came from. Their giant bodies and primitive tools could be compared to the Nords, yet they seem much less intelligent. Michael Kirkbride, a former writer at Bethesda that is responsible for much of the franchise's lore, explained their origins in a non-official story about how the Nords migrated to Tamriel. In it, Kirkbride describes the giants as natives to Atmora that migrated to Skyrim thousands of years ago. They were once much more intelligent and fierce, although their kind was treated so poorly by the Nords and other races that these giants migrated up to the mountains for hundreds of years before returning to Skyrim. Giants have never been the same since. While this is certainly a solid explanation as to their origins, this story hasn't been confirmed either in-game or from Bethesda themselves and should be treated as fan-fiction.

It is no secret that the Ancient Nords treated everything beyond themselves and dragons as challenges to be conquered, but this reaches a whole new level when giants are considered. Could part of the Nord's resilience to the cold and expertise with combat derive in part from breeding with giants? It sounds far-fetched, but half-giant and half-Nords do exist in the official Elder Scrolls timeline. Take Lyris Titanborn from as an example. Born from a father that was half-giant and half-Nord, she would be raised as a brilliant fighter that rose above her competition both in skill and physical height. If Lyris and her father are part giant, are some giants part Nord by extension? Who knows how .

Is There A Giant Hierarchy

While the skin marks on every giant are the same, their apparel is different from each other. Some giants wear more bones and fur than others even if multiple giants co-exist at the same camp. Does this imply that giants might have a social hierarchy? The appearance of a giant doesn't influence their stats or behavior in any way, but surely the giants that wear more bones and fur are valued higher than those that wear little clothing.

Certain NPCs comment on this by stating Secunda's Kiss is valued highly by the giants and that the player should steer clear. Why do the giants hold this particular camp so highly? Various rocks are adorned with mammoth bones and flowers, which could imply that this is a cemetery for fallen mammoths. It wouldn't be the first time the giants have shown compassion for other beings. If it isn't a cemetery, then what else could it be?

How Did The Giants Lose Their Intelligence

Since they use tools and have clothing, it can be inferred that they are reasonably intelligent compared to most of Skyrim's creatures. That said, they refuse to learn other languages or communicate with others. Why is this? Did they somehow lose their intelligence in their migration from Atmora to Skyrim? If that theory is true and they migrated from Atmora, giants could have been experimented on by the Dwemer when they sought refuge in the mountainous regions of Tamriel. Whatever happened in those mountains made them much less intelligent.
