The Dark Explorers set had some valuable cards among some otherwise inexpensive ones. Here are the most valuable and some that aren't worth much. The cards in the can get a little confusing when their value is discussed, ranging from some of the rarest cards around to a highly technical game piece, the prices fluctuate wildly. Artwork, gameplay, and limited availability all play key factors in how much collectors can get for a card. Even only being 8 years old, the Dark Explorers set has some unexpected gems that will fill the player's pocket. On the other end of the spectrum, the majority of every pack is filled with low level, common cards that end up gathering dust at the bottom of the pile. Not Valuable Tynamo - $0 13

One of the weaker Pokémon in the entire game, Tynamo is understandably the least valuable card in the set. Even in the description, it states that in the wild it needs a chain of them to create a bolt strong enough to deal any significant damage. Besides the artwork and it's generally cute appearance, the card doesn't have a lot going for it. Being one of the most common cards in the pack with little to offer in the way of battle useability, Tynamo will have to sit out until it evolves into its more capable .

Valuable Pokémon Catcher Gold - $36 00

The card itself doesn't have a counterpart in the series like so many of the weird and wonderful items they release in the TCG. However, it's effectiveness in the game is rather middle of the road for such a, even if it is made of gold. In this case, it isn't the use of prowess of the card but rather how rare it is. Sliding in a secret rare for an item has ramped up the prices considerably, even blowing by some of the EX legendaries for value.

Not Valuable Vullaby - $0 14

If there was a word to describe Vullaby it's printed at the top of the card, basic. While it's evolutions are something to be hesitant of, Vullaby is the vulnerable tag along that the others have to protect. Hence the literal skull it wears around its legs in case the others aren't around. Though the card is listed as uncommon, it's not enough to bump it out of the bottom 5 spot. At least it can be a semi-useful support with the Whirlwind attack, just don't plan for the baby bird to stick around for long with it's low HP.

Valuable Kyogre EX 104 Full Art - $42 00

The first on the list, Kyogre has been one of the most prominent in the entire series since its debut in 2002. This has sparked 20 different versions of the sea lord to be released, many of which command a pretty penny. The Ultra Rare status of the card helps push it along, making this one of the most desired cards in the pack. Especially when fans look at the flowing artwork that accompanied, this card isn't just a powerhouse on the field but its easy on the eyes as well.

Not Valuable Larvesta - $0 15

Is there much that needs to be said? Larvesta is one of the creepiest crawlies around, wide-eyed and six-legged, there aren't many who'd pick this Pokémon if they had the choice. Even in the game, it takes its time evolving into the much more appealing Volcarona at level 59. Though it has more ability than the previous 2 with a unique type, the card has some glaring weaknesses against one of the most common types in the series, water. It also happens to one of the most common cards in the pack, as expected.

Valuable Raikou EX 105 full art - $44 00

One of the most popular legendaries in the series, Raikou even outshines Suicune and Entei in the way of fan popularity. it isn't a big shock as it definitely has the flashiest appearance, it's also one of the best attack Pokémon in the entire game. The artwork alone would put it up there in terms of value, with lightning dancing across the background of the card. Of course, it's an Ultra Rare that pushes up the price with some of the most powerful electric attacks in the game.

Not Valuable Lillipup - $0 15

Lillipup is a victim of its own dull design, almost making it to the realm of cute. There have been plenty of Pokémon over the years that have shot up in popularity strictly due to they're cute appearance, Lillipup just falls short and lands in the realm of boring. Its battle ability doesn't help it along any, the strongest attack on the card actually damages itself. Something that Lillipup can't afford with that bottom of the barrel , it turns into a low-level kamikaze mission when players use this card.

Valuable Darkrai Ex 107 Full Art - $60 00

Coming in at number two in terms of value, the mythical Pokémon that causes nightmares for those around it. Unless you manage to capture the beast, then it turns into somewhat of a dream as Darkrai unleashes its power on the enemy. This is why it's been featured on almost as many cards as Kyogre despite making its debut 5 years later. An Ultra Rare card that has both the ominous figure lurching forward out of the card and some serious attack power to go with it. If the player has any on their team it's of great benefit as it takes away some of the energy cost. On top of that Night Spear delivers a total 120 damage to multiple Pokémon on the opposition.

Not Valuable Old Amber Aerodactyl - $0 15

The Pokémon this card is trying to bring out is nothing to laugh at, Aerodactyl's unique typing and speed are some of the best in Generation 1. Unfortunately, this card offers little more than the ability to use a few items before one of the player's team strikes. Unless the deck is packed with more than a few Aerodactyl, this card isn't going to be much help seeing as all other cards have to be shuffled back in the deck. Even its uncommon status couldn't save it from scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Valuable Gardevoir - $99 00

Surprisingly this is the most valuable card in the pack, highlighting the effect rarity can have on a card's value. Gardevoir has trumped all the most popular legendaries in Dark Explorers and taken the lead spot despite having much weaker attack use. Of course, the different colour scheme for the Secret Rare skyrockets it up the list, being the only card to approach the $100 mark. A perfect collectors card as it will probably gain value while not being missed in an active deck used in competition. Unless a Psychic offensive deck is the play style, Gardevoir can safely sit in the collection without a worry.
