The tech tree is smaller but the options are just as important as they've ever been. Here are the 10 best Assembly Projects you need to focus on in XCOM: Chimera Squad. This article contains slight spoilers for XCOM: Chimera Squad. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

Modular Armor

Customization is a cornerstone of the more recent XCOM titles. Modifying your characters' weapons, armor, and appearance are just as important as the gameplay loop. While customizing your character's appearance has been reduced to armor tints, modular items are still in full swing in Chimera Squad. Modular Armor is an Assembly Project that allows you to install armor mods, ranging from extra health to entering tight vents for Breach encounters. You need this upgrade to obtain better armor, so it's a good idea to obtain it as soon as possible.

Faction Equipment

Via: PCInvasion https://www.pcinvasion.com/xcom-chimera-squad-factions-progeny-dark-events/ XCOM: Chimera Squad is all about investigating one of three factions that could be responsible for Mayor Nightingale's death. In typical XCOM fashion, completing an investigation into each faction unlocks a unique set of research options with new items. Sacred Coil grants access to Incendiary Grenades and Bubble Weave, Gray Phoenix unlocks Overdrive Serum and Regen Weave, and The Progeny unlock Talon Rounds and Lift Grenades. Plan your investigations accordingly based on what items you want earlier.

Enhanced Armor

Permadeath might have been removed in Chimera Squad, but that doesn't mean having more health isn't beneficial. You will need all the defenses you can get to beat this game, especially on higher difficulties. After you research Modular Armor, Enhanced Armor becomes an option in the Assembly menu. This armor grants 2 maximum HP and also unlocks an additional utility slot, perfect for bringing extra grenades or ammo types to a mission.

Improved Spec Ops

Spec Ops missions are optional objectives that idle Agents can partake in. These missions take anywhere from 3 to 5 days to complete, granting anything from resources to reduced City Anarchy. Improved Spec Ops allows 2 Agents to complete Spec Ops missions at once, allowing for much more control over what resources you rake in bi-weekly. To unlock this option, you will need to research Expert Field Teams and have one Security Field Team at rank 3.

Expert Field Teams

Speaking of, Expert Field Teams are an essential upgrade for any XCOM: Chimera Squad playthrough. This Assembly Project unlocks the ability to upgrade Field Teams to rank 3. These tier 3 upgrades are essential for the later stages of Chimera Squad. Additional resource income and ways to mitigate Unrest are crucial for any playthrough. Better yet, this unlock is necessary to research Improved Assembly, Spec Ops, and Training options to speed productivity among Chimera Squad.

Modular Weapons

Similar to Modular Armor, Modular Weapons is a crucial upgrade that all players should obtain as soon as possible. This Assembly Project is needed to upgrade weapons and unlock better attachments. Carried over from XCOM 2, attachments are socketable items for weapons that grant increased stats. These can range from additional accuracy to free reloads. While attachments start rather weak, their effectiveness ramps up towards the mid to late-game, granting massive critical bonuses or nearly double magazine sizes for weapons.

Mastercrafted Weapons

Via: PCGamesN https://www.pcgamesn.com/xcom-chimera-squad/review Weapons are just as important as your armor in XCOM. While armor will mitigate damage for you, enemies can't damage you . Mastercrafted Weapons is the final upgrade for weapons in XCOM: Chimera Squad. While you will need to research Mastercrafts for each weapon, the payoff is massive. When the Assembly Project is complete, your weapons gain a +1 damage increase and the Shredder perk for dealing with armor. Even if you use Rare Scavenger Market guns Mastercrafted Weapons is worth the investment, as this Project increases the lethality of those guns as well.

Mastercrafted Armor

Via: GamesHedge https://www.gameshedge.com/xcom-chimera-squad-armor-guide-armor-types-how-to-get/ Armor is one of the strongest mechanics introduced in XCOM 2, granting flat damage mitigation based on how much Armor you have. Since unique armor sets are missing in Chimera Squad, making this stat is harder to get than in XCOM 2. Mastercrafted Armor is the only Assembly Project that can give every Agent in the game base Armor for free. One free point of damage mitigation on top of 1 extra health point makes this upgrade a solid choice in the middling parts of XCOM: Chimera Squad.

Improved Training

Training is one of the strongest mechanics in Chimera Squad. Agents that train gain bonuses to core stats such as health or mobility. Some Agents even through training! To better utilize this system, Improved Training should be obtained as soon as you have 8 Agents. This upgrade requires both the Improved and Expert Field Teams Assembly Projects completed, and you must also have one Finance Field Team at max rank to see this option. Once it's finished, you can train two Agents at once to dramatically speed up the progression of your squad's overall strength.

Improved Assembly

There is still one more Assembly Project that is better than the rest on this list, and that research option is Improved Assembly. Just like the upgrades before it, Improved Assembly allows 2 Agents to contribute toward Assembly Projects at once, reducing research times dramatically. Research Expert Field Teams and upgrade a Technology Field Team to rank 3 as soon as you can to stay ahead of the factions threatening City 31.
