Fallout 4 10 Companion Backstories That Are Just Too Sad

From Hancock to Piper, here are 10 companions in Fallout 4 that had rough lives in the wasteland and backstories that were just too sad. There are a bunch of different interesting companions that players can encounter in . Most of them have in-depth companion quests and long backstories that players can hear all about from dialog with them. Extra backstory for companions is always great and it was nailed perfectly in this game. This list will go over some of the saddest backstories of the followers in the game and shed some light on some things that most players may not have known. From Hancock to Piper, here are 10 companions in Fallout 4 that had rough lives in the wasteland! THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

John Hancock

John's back story isn't only sad it's also incredibly weird compared to the other companions. He irradiated himself so that he could become a ghoul to fit in with the rest of Goodneighbor and to have a drug trip. Although is story is very peculiar, it's also a very interesting and sad one. His brother was the mayor of and he was replaced by a synth which was hard on John because he had just thought that his brother was becoming a bigot.

Porter Gage

Gage was a character added in the Nuka-World Expansion and is the only companion that was new in the DLC. He guides the sole survivor throughout the park and is very knowledgeable about the different attractions that players can encounter. When he was a young boy, his parents were simple wastelanders, and raiders continued to harass them. He didn't want to end up weak like them, always giving in to other people's demands. Eventually, he ran away so that he would become his own man and made his way to the amusement park. A son feeling ashamed of his parents is never a happy story so this deserves a spot on this list.

Paladin Danse

This brotherhood of steel agent has a less than happy backstory because he is actually an institute synth and he never even knew it. This is revealed during the main quest if the player sides with the Brotherhood of Steel and this paladin is willing to die for the cause of destroying synths even though he actually is one himself. The player can step in and save Danse from his past by talking with the elder, however, only players with high charisma will be able to stop him from dying. Danse is one of the best companions in the game because of his interesting backstory and amazing twist.

Preston Garvey

Preston is regarded by the Fallout community as a likable yet annoying character because of his repetitive quests. Even though players find him annoying they also acknowledge that he has had a hard life living out in the wasteland and that he has risen to become one of the top leaders in the Minutemen despite just being a normal soldier when he started. It is sad that he watched all his fellow comrades die in Quincy and, once the player meets Preston, he doesn't have many people left under his protection. Watching friends die is a sad event and Preston has seen way too much of it.

Nick Valentine

Valentine is a synth in between the older models and the newer models. When players first encounter him, they don't understand what he is, however, he actually has the intelligence of a human because of a memory chip that the institute implanted inside of his head. His back story is basically the same as the human that he got all of his memories from and it is a sad one indeed. The man was a cop and his love interest was murdered and the player can help track down the man responsible who is living underground in a bunker. This will help Nick get over his past and move on with his new life alongside the sole survivor but it's still a sad story.

Robert Joseph MacCready

Robert is a companion that is first encountered in Goodneighbor. Players that meet this freelancer will have to pay for his services but he will eventually give the player their money back once they become better acquainted. Roberts's back story is one of the saddest in the entire franchise because he watched his wife be ripped apart by mutants and his son is sick with an incurable disease. He also appears in the third installment of the series as a child and players can learn more about him there.

Ada

This metallic companion doesn't have much unique dialog, however, what makes up for it is her interesting story in the . She was left behind after her entire team of friends was murdered and she calls out for the player to help her. Even for a robot, watching friends die is an extremely sad thing and she had to experience a lot of it in a short amount of time. Ada can find closure in her computer chip brain and eventually becomes happy in the soul survivors' care.

Codsworth

This is the first companion that most players encounter because he can be talked to right after leaving the vault. It was the pre-war robot butler of the sole survivor and it has been waiting for them to come home for hundreds of years. Waiting for hundreds of years with mundane tasks would drive any person mad and, apparently, it's the same for robots. Luckily, once the sole survivor comes back, this sad story ends and Codsworth becomes sane again.

Piper Wright

Piper's backstory is that of watching her father get killed by an unstable man. She used to live in another settlement and, when things went south, her father died and she moved to Diamond City with her little sister. Her little sister has lost her parents and Piper had to raise her mostly by herself, which is an unfortunate thing that most children shouldn't have to experience but, luckily, Piper is a good mother figure. Piper was just a child when she lost her father and that makes this story even sadder.

Cait

Cait has the saddest back story in the game without a doubt. She was the slave of a host of different terrible people and the best point in her life before meeting the sole survivor was fighting in a raider pit for money. If that's a high point in somebody's life then it is evident that they have had a hard life and that is exactly the case with Cait. This Irish tough girl may have a sad backstory but she can beat up any enemy that comes her way. Her companion also takes players to a new vault to get her off drugs and she eventually finds peace after getting clean.
