The Legend Of Zelda 10 Ways To Make Breath Of The Wild s Master Mode Even More Difficult

Master Mode ramps up the challenge in Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but there are ways to make Link's journey even harder. The Master Trials DLC pack added many new aspects to , with new armor sets and the titular Master Trials as the meat of the expansion. However, one of the more challenging aspects added was Master Mode, a harder version of Link's adventures through Hyrule. Master Mode is hard enough on its own, with stronger and more aggressive enemies, tweaked mechanics, and altered enemy placements. That said, there are ways to make the playthrough even harder for those who think of themselves as masochists. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

Take On Every Enemy

Something new players of Master Mode will discover right away is that the Bokoblins around the Temple of Time will take a fair number of weapons to defeat, as they have more health and weapons take fewer blows to break. So, naturally, avoiding many early enemies is necessary if players want to make it past the opening hour alive. Alternatively, players can throw Link at every enemy within draw distance and waste many weapons they will need later trying to kill a bog-standard Bokoblin.

Don t Wear Armor

Even in the normal mode, trying to run through the game without using any is a madman's venture. In Master Mode, players are just asking to be killed repeatedly if they attempt this same playstyle. Not only are enemies higher leveled than in normal mode, but they also carry stronger weapons, meaning they hit significantly harder than they used to. Naked runs of the Dark Souls series have been a long time tradition among the fanbase, but Zelda fans know better than to attempt the same thing in Breath of the Wild.

Ignore Cooking Pots

In Master Mode, players will need every advantage they can get, especially in the early hours of the game. In normal mode, it can be easy to miss the cooking pot surrounded by Bokoblins behind the Temple of Time, but in Master Mode, ignoring this means the trek up the mountain is made nearly impossible. Not only will ignoring cooking pots mean players won't have as easy access to healing foods and potions, but also environmental resistant buffs that are mandatory to access several key areas in the game, including Death Mountain and .

Avoid Shrines

The first four shrines in Breath of the Wild can't really be ignored, but every single one after that can be run past without affecting Link too much. The only problem with doing this is that he will be stuck with, at most, four hearts, for the rest of the game. This becomes very problematic when attempting to enter volatile areas or even engaging in simple combat situations. One wrong move and Link is sent careening back in time to his last save point.

Only Use Korok Leaves

are one of the in Link's arsenal for Master Mode, as many enemies are positioned near cliffs or other high areas that players can take advantage of. What isn't advisable though, is to only use Korok Leaves and no other weapon. While they can make quick work of standard enemies, provided players make use of their environment, it quickly becomes apparent that the bosses aren't as easy to take down this way. A Korok Leaf does a measly 1 damage and is very fragile.

Don t Complete Any Divine Beasts

Even if players complete every shrine in the game, upgrade the Master Sword back to its peak power, and have the best possible armor set they can find, the powers granted from beating Ganon's Blight bosses can mean the difference between success and failure in the final battle. For one, not getting as soon as humanly possible can mean seeing the deep red loading screen of Master Mode more often than not. Daruk's Protection can also have the exact same effect on gameplay.

Don t Get The Master Sword

It can be easy to miss or even purposefully ignore the in normal mode, but doing so in Master Mode is just asking for trouble. Aside from dealing decent damage against most enemies, the fact it is the only semi-permanent weapon in the game means it is the most useful weapon Link can acquire in Master Mode. Weapons degrade faster in Master Mode than normal mode, which is one of the reasons why the floating platforms were added with weapons chests. Therefore, not taking this literal gift from the gods is something only the best of the best should attempt.

Don t Use Fast Travel

The map in Breath of the Wild is huge. So huge, in fact, that fast travel is made available in the opening minutes of the game. Under normal circumstances, not using fast travel is acceptable, as it means players get to see Hyrule in all its beauty while moving from place to place. In Master Mode, where there are more powerful enemies and different enemy placements on the map, it is a lot easier to run into a hoard of high-level Bokoblins that players aren't ready to face down.

Go Straight For Calamity Ganon

There have been many successful attempts from players who want to go straight to Hyrule Castle and face down with only a handful of hearts and a broom picked up off the floor. In Master Mode, it is basically suicide to attempt this run, as even Ganon's health regenerates in his battle. Without a good supply of strong weapons, decent armor, and a mountain of food to boot, going straight for the final boss is the ultimate challenge for Master Mode players. Or is it?

Aim For 100% Completion

What could be more difficult than going straight for Hyrule Castle? Attempting to complete the game with 100% completion. Not only would players have to obtain all 900 Korok Seeds - as well as Hestu's "gift" - but also the Master Trials, Champions Ballad, and many other side quests that were hard enough in normal mode. As combat needs to be approached more carefully, this can mean encounters take significantly longer to complete and will draw out the time to complete the game to staggering levels.
