Final Fantasy VII Remake Every Summon Ranked & How To Get Them

Summons can make any Final Fantasy player's life a whole lot easier, and here is every Summon in The FF7 remake, ranked. Summons are a mainstay of the series, and it's no different with . If you're unfamiliar, Summons are powerful magical creatures you can summon in the heat of battle that give offensive, defensive, or curative effects. You'll come across several Summon Materia that you can slot into your weapon to summon a variety of beasts to fight alongside you, each with their own unique abilities. Here's every one of the Summons in the FFVII Remake you can get, ranked, as well as how to get them so you can put the smack down on your enemies. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

Chocobo Chick

First up is the Chocobo Chick. Chocobos have been a mainstay of the series since Final Fantasy II, and in Remake, you can summon an adorable Chocobo Chick to fight by your side. However, you can only receive this Summon if you had pre-ordered the game before it was released. The Chocobo Chick is easily the weakest of the Summons available in the game. It casts different spells at random, but compared to the spells your party can equip, it isn't doing much damage. Its Ultimate Attack causes some decent damage but overall, it isn't worth it.

Cactuar

Next up is another familiar creature from the series, and that's the Cactuar. This creature can be obtained as a Summon Materia only if you've bought the Deluxe Edition, Digital Deluxe, or the 1st Class Edition of the game. The best word to describe the Cactuar Summon is "okay". Its damage output isn't the worst but its most useful attribute is that it can stagger enemies pretty quickly, which comes in handy during boss fights.

Fat Chocobo

The Fat Chocobo is the first entry on this list that isn't a DLC Summon, and is instead a Summon you receive by defeating it in Chadley's VR Battles, which unlock after turning in 5 . The VR Battle with the Fat Chocobo doesn't unlock until you talk to Chadley during Chapter 9 in Wall Market. The Fat Chocobo does do some pretty decent damage against enemies, but it's biggest problem is the fact that it's very slow compared to the other Summons available.

Carbuncle

Next is the adorable Carbuncle, a familiar creature if you've played other Final Fantasy titles. Like the Chocobo Chick and the Cactuar, the Carbuncle Summon is a DLC item, and like the Cactuar, you can only receive the Carbuncle Summon if you've ordered the Deluxe or 1st Class editions of the game. Of all the DLC Summons, Carbuncle is the best, as it provides your party with some useful buffs, like making your ATB recharge more quickly or halving damage done to you from spells, and its Ultimate Attack heals your party and revives KO'd party members.

Chocobo & Moogle

Don't let their harmless appearance fool you, Chocobo & Moogle is a great Summon to have. It's great to use against enemies weak to wind damage and it also has a useful attack called Chocobo Kick, which inflicts great stagger damage. You can find the Materia for this Summon during Chapter 6. Tifa points out the Materia behind a spinning fan but you can't go grab it right away. You have to first shut off the 3 sun lamps to access the lift that takes you to the ventilation shafts.

Shiva

Shiva is another Summon you get from defeating it in Chadley's VR Battle, but you don't have access to this battle until Chapter 8, when you talk to Chadley in the Sector 5 Slums, right by the Materia shop. When used against enemies weak to ice, Shiva is incredibly powerful. Even without an ice weakness, Shiva's attacks hit enemies hard. Plus, Shiva's Ultimate Attack, Diamond Dust does a tremendous amount of damage and is very helpful in a pinch.

Leviathan

Yet another Summon you receive from Chadley's VR Battles, Leviathan is a massive Summon that inflicts devastatingly strong attacks. The VR Battle against this familiar creature isn't accessible until Chapter 14, but once you get to that point, you can talk to Hadley in any of his recent locations to start the battle. Leviathan's normal attacks inflict a lot of damage but where its true strength comes in, it's its Ultimate Attack. Leviathan uses its signature Tidal Wave attack as its Ultimate Attack, sweeping enemies in its current.

Ifrit

One of the best Summons in is also the first Summon you receive, and it's the easiest to obtain. Ifrit's Summon Materia is given to you by Jessie at the beginning of Chapter 4 and it can carry you for a hefty portion of the game. This fiery block of muscles and anger is a great Summon to throw at enemies because of how aggressively it attacks and its Ultimate Attack envelops enemies in a powerful firestorm.

Bahamut

Finally, the best Summon in the game is also the most difficult to acquire. To even gain access to the VR Battle, you'll have to complete each of Chadley's Battle Intel Reports, all 20 of them. It's a long process and once you've done that, you'll have to beat in battle before getting its Summon Materia, and that isn't an easy task. Once you've done all that, though, you'll be able to summon Bahamut. This Summon is an absolute powerhouse and can unleash tremendous damage on enemies, especially with its Ultimate Attack, Megaflare.
