5 Best Overwatch League Teams In NA & 5 Of The Worst

Much has changed in the Overwatch League since the Summer Showdown, and here are five of the current tops teams, as well as five of the bottom. With the Summer Showdown now over, it's clear that there has been a change in who the top dogs are in the League, especially in the North American region. Some teams and shined, and others barely even got the chance to show off what they could do. Due to the Summer Showdown's major twists, pegging down who the in NA are and who are the worst is difficult. However, several factors need to be included that aren't just recency bias from who the recent winners and losers are. Those factors include the meta, how good a team is at adapting to hero pools, insider issues the teams may have faced, and, of course, where a team currently resides in the standings. Best Toronto Defiant

What an amazing weekend the Toronto Defiant had during the Summer Showdown. They made it to the Semi-finals when most people assumed they'd get knocked out in the qualifiers by the Valiant. With the current Genji meta, it makes sense that the Defiant would be so powerful at the moment since they have a player like Brady "Agilities" Girardi. While they still have much to prove until they can be considered a truly amazing team, they deserve a top-five spot for Overwatch League teams in NA.

Worst Atlanta Reign

A team with so much talent but so very little to show for it. They have yet to win a game that isn't a . They destroy teams they are better than, but they can't seem to beat a team they are on the same level with. On paper, they look so good but fail in practice. It's not like this is a recency bias thing either. This has been their entire season of 3-0 wins and nothing else. 3-0's are great, but, if wins can't be pulled off against better teams or at least teams at the same par as them, they're going to continue to plummet in the standings.

Best Florida Mayhem

Despite a rough Summer Showdown, the Mayhem are still one of the best teams in the league. They were runners-up during the May Melee, so it's not like they're pushovers. Not to mention they are full of talented players who work well together. They have a great and duo and have one of the best Tracers in Jun Ki "Yaki" Kim. They struggled in the Houston Outlaws match in the Summer Showdown, but they will almost surely bounce back from that loss.

Worst Los Angeles Gladiators

Another team full of talent but unable to properly make use of it, the Gladiators have been mostly shields down this whole season, which is a disappointment, to be sure. They've been unable to come up with the goods time and again, even against teams they are better than. They are inconsistent with their wins, as they beat the Washington Justice the week before the Summer Showdown, then lost to them in the qualifiers for the Summer Showdown. It's hard to imagine a team with such high expectations could be so mediocre in the league.

Best San Fransisco Shock

The reigning champs of the League brought their momentum into this year. They've remained towards the top of the standings all year, and they continue to do well. Even though they have lost some of their talented players like last year's MVP Jay "Sinatraa" Won, they continue to get wins over tough and weaker opponents alike. The casters always talk about how they never let their foot off the gas, even with an inferior opponent, and it certainly rings true. Despite a loss earlier than expected in the semi-finals of the Summer Showdown, the Shock are still a force to be reckoned with.

Worst Vancouver Titans

The runners-up from last year's Grand Finals have fallen so far, but it isn't necessarily the players' fault. Due to COVID-19, the franchise was unable to properly accommodate their players, and they were all let go. The franchise had to scramble and signed the Overwatch League Contenders team "Second Wind" for their core roster. Being thrown into the Overwatch League without an off-season of practice has proven difficult for the Titans to get wins. There have been flashes of brilliance in this young and unproven squad, but they would need to go on a massive win-streak now to even have a chance at getting into the finals.

Best Philadelphia Fusion

The Fusion has been good since season one—they were the Grand Finals runner-ups—and has stayed that way since. Their roster has had little changes in the franchise's existence—don't fix it if it isn't broken, right? Jae-hyeok "Carpe" Lee still does Carpe things, and his DPS partner, Josue "Eqo" Corona, will be able to shine with the current Genji meta. The Fusion has been great all season and currently sits on the top of the NA standings, and they'll most certainly stay up there as long as Genji remains meta.

Worst Washington Justice

Despite a great upset victory against the Gladiators, it's hard to argue that they're better than the Gladiators considering the Gladiators beat them twice in the three weeks leading up to the Summer Showdown. They only have three wins this season and lost their star DPS Corey "Corey" Nigra due to retirement. Just like last year, they just can't seem to get it done. Excluding the Gladiators, they've only beaten teams that are about on the same par as they are.

Best Paris Eternal

It's hard to argue with results. The Paris Eternal played phenomenally during the Summer Showdown. They beat both the Shock and the Fusion in one tournament, which is a feat in and of itself. Neither victory was necessarily decisive, but they won nonetheless. Their victory over the tournament was thanks in no small part to Yeong-han "SP9RK1E" Kim, a player everyone expected big things from, and he delivered. With Overwatch being in the middle of a Genji meta with no clear end in sight, the Paris Eternal will surely rise in the standings.

Worst Boston Uprising

It's hard to call this another disappointing season for the Uprising because it's so much worse than that. They only have two wins this season, and both games went to a decisive map five. They lost in the knockout round of the May Melee and didn't even get to compete in the Summer Showdown. The Uprising needs to put in some major work if they are going to be a real competitor for next season.
